Alot of people I've seen freak out when certain issues with out engines arise. For instance, I explained my rod knock, explained all of why and how it happened. Well lots of people were extremely against my simple "bandaid" rebuilding. Replace the BROKEN parts and make her purr.

Im replacing the bearing, cleaning the shit out of everything else along with inspecting it. No damage. Im getting toyota head bolts, not really hyped about getting ARPs, honestly never been explained WHY its a better solution, I understand it, but It seems like more hype to me.

I am however, going nuts with the bolts, Im going to have ALL new bolts made from the list I found last night showing every bolt, size and where they go. I think with that, new HG (NOT MHG), cleaned parts in and out, new rod bearing on the one that spun to non existence and all new gaskets. Lots of you wont recommend this, but its my engine, and I wanna see if my experience, if working, will calm some people down. LOTS of people have bad experiences with any engine, but in turn around alot of us havent ever had those problems.

The 7m may not be the most reliable thing on the planet, but I trust it enough to not go spending $1500 to bulletproof it. It ran 4 months, yes 4 months with a small rod knock wich turned into major rod knock, only ran 2mins after that b4 I stopped it. I in ignorance didnt know that 4 months it was rod knock, but upon inspection there is NO internal damage. I had a mechanic inspect this shit, NO damage. Im fixing whats wrong and seeing how long it runs. After that, I may fully build my GTE block.

I really love all the help I get from EVERYONE, whetehr they offer more advice than I ask or not, I just wish some people would offer advice, but not shove down my throat that I def has the worst case scenario and I HAVE to do this and that without actually seeing it.

I guess my point is that just because theres alot of bad experiences, it doesnt mean I have to have it too, so Im going to build my supra back THIS way, and be done and show, that maybe its not as unreliable as thought.

Thank you everyone though, really, I love the help so far and how I dont get flamed for asking a billion questions, I ask bc Id like to get a better understanding b4 I go do what Im asking about. I am a fast learner, and I have some common sense, so you can trust that I wont fuck it up.
Thanks guys, cant wait to get it running.

:ugh2: good luck, let us know how it turns out.............. i will not give you shit for doing your own thing but my first rebuild i thought the same thing i detonated hard core and crushed the ring lands on 4 pistons, i put in used pistons, with new rings all around and made sure everything was good, well it purred beautifully for 3 months, and then blew up in my face again, so yeah the motor i just finished i decided to "go all out", and i am almost positive nothing i could do could break this thing. so to me all that extra$$$ was very worth it.

yah you are right man, I was origanally going to just throw some new rod bearings in to cure my rod knock, but since the motor already has 130k I might as well just rebuild the whole thing, so I can be worry free about the motor for a while.

I would definitly replace or have resized the rod that had the knock. I'm quite sure the big end hole is no longer round, but oval shaped instead.

big hole? Do you mean the little hole thats also on the crankshaft or the rod itself with the cap on it, Ill check that. The rod said 2 on teh cap, so do I need to put a 3 inside it or what? Pleas explain.

The engine head prooved the car had some abuse on it as far as oil goes, crusty shit, but the underside aside from this rod looks beautiful.

replace the entire rod. I'm talking about the big end of the rod that goes around the crankshaft is most likely oval from taking the beating of rod knock for four months. If it is oval, you would get rod knock in a very short period of time after your rebuild.

I would make sure you check your tolerances; there is a good chance just like gixxer750 was saying their out. Also check the crank for scuff marks or else you'll be doing it all over again shortly. if it was me take it to a machninist they got the best tools in my oponion for the job.

good luck on the build, I wanna see some pics along the way. Build it the way you wanna build it. Dont always take people's word for your questions, as everyone's engine is different. Some have been taken great care of in the last 15+ years that they wont need rebuilds for ages, like mine. :icon_bigg

:3d_frown: it seems you have a lot to learn about engines before doing a rebuild yourself, hate to say it but true, i would never put an engine together without triple checking all specs and measurements, do you have all the neccessary micrometers, vernier calapers, ect.? do you know how to use plastigauge? do you have a good cylinder hone? this list goes on and on and on.... there is the cheap way to rebuild, and there is the right way to rebuild.
