Finally got my trusty old 89 NA a heart transplant. Well worth the sweat and blood.

Quick history - I have owned this car for about 7 years. Used to be my Daily driver when I was starting out in my career. My paychecks slowly increased and other cars came and went, but I could never sell my Supra. It sat for about 2 years after its first BHG, at 110,000 miles. Then I fixed that and did the 1/2NA-T thing. A nice power increase but a pain to get running right and tune, that flapper AFM sucks:icon_evil Oh and my heavy foot and lack of good tune caused BHG version 2.

So now its alive again, refreshed GE block and head. OEM HG with ARP's at 80lbs. GTE electronics this time. First turn of the key and it ran smoother than my 1/2NA-T ever did.

I still have some stuff to do. I need a fan shroud. Also need to route the ISC >Accordian hose better. Right now I have it rigged up just so it runs. I want to hide it better.

My goal was to unclutter the top of the engine, it is my personal dislike of the 7M. I relocated the coil packs, hood clearance is about the same as when they are on the valve covers. I also rigged the throttle cable to direct actuation. Clears all that crap off the top associated with the throttle cable. No cruise now but the car is not a daily and it is either at idle or WOT:biglaugh: so cruise is for nana's.........

Custom Hardpipes made by me. 2 1/4 off the turbo - 2 1/2 into and out of the intercooler - 2 3/4 honduh intake pipe - 3inch "3000" pipe.
Truspeed big mouth elbow and 3in downpipe.

HK$ EVC and Turbo timer to go on yet.
MSD plug wires and relocated coilpack.
Semi polished valve covers (adds 30hp).
TT wheels with crap tires, gonna burn them out then replace, pics of course!
ST lowering springs with KYB GR2's.

There's probably more I have forgotten.

Also,
Thanks to Supramania search function:icon_bigg excellent resource. I was going to bug the crap out of you guys with dumb questions but the search taught me most of what I needed.

Was very tempted to ask Jet jock what code 51 means though, just to wind him up:naughty: Search jetjock & code 51 if you want to understand that joke!

More pics soon....

Thanks for letting me share my supra.

This is some serious insperation for my NA-T swap.

Im also going with maft-pro so tuning should be fun! I love how you mounted the coil packs!

Everything looks sooo god man! I vote for a video of the beast!

Thanks guys,

I have a few more pics to get on here, maybe tomorrow when I get time.

I would love to put up a video but I only learned how to post pics this morning:biglaugh: One step at a time...........

Will, get the turbo swap done, its makes these cars so much better. I went through headers, intake blah blah on the GE and it hardly made a difference on this fat pig. This thing on stock boost is great. With the higher compression there is no lag, just pulls and pulls:aigo: More boost soon, when I get some fuel management, maybe Maftpro. can't wait.

Only down side is that I should have done this in winter, summer in Houston sucks, too damn hot for pulling engines etc:nono:

Yup i jsut started ripping he apart about an hour ago! I was all for "hardcore NA power" i was gonna invest in some headers, exhaust yadda yadda yadda.

Then i saw some videos of turbo supras and was like "whoa"

:biglaugh:

I can't wait to have some boost and im having a turbo expert (shaeff) help me out a litte so everything should go smooothly! I would LOVE some more pictures! I really like your car! Its so low profile but very very well done!

Congrats!

Edit- when you first went NA-T did you use GE electronics?

Will, I did try the 1/2 NA-T or whatever its called, with the GE electronics. I could never get the tune I wanted. I hated the NA flapper AFM. I ended up with a BHG as I detonated too much, on stock boost as well.
With the GTE electronics it is just like toyota meant it to be. Fires right up, idles smooth, responds good etc. It felt like I spent my whole time on GE electrics cranking it over and trying to get a good idle and not have it die every time I let off the gas:cry: Too much hassle.

Now that the Maftpro supports the NA it might be easier, but I would still be concerned about the limits of the NA ecu under boost.

Thats exactly why i spent the extra dollar and went with the GTE ECU and wiring and electronics!

Here's my intercooler setup.
Driftmotion set me up with the cooler, and I made the hardpipes with bits and pieces from everywhere, ebay, exhaust shop etc...

Don't look at my cracked shitty bumper, I am doing bodywork after the powertrain is done:biglaugh:

:aigo: That turned out awesome!!!!
I love the throttle cable and coilpack relocation with the NA valve covers, the piping, everything is so clean! Intercooler looks right at home too! Not too much trouble to trim the ic bracket right? Big props dude!

Funny coincidence is I have a set of powdercoated NA valve covers and coilpack relocation ready to go on my car asap!

The intercooler install was easier than I planned.

I see that most guys pull the bumper off, well I was test fitting it in there about 20 seconds after the UPS guy came to my house:biglaugh: It looked so shiny I couldn't wait! And I ended up just holding it up there with some jack stands and fabbing two easy brackets for the bottom, using the holes from the old oil cooler plumbing to attach to, and then I trimmed the big bracket that is welded on the top. I took about 2 inches off in length and cut the sides off so it was just a flat plate, bent it about 20-30 deg. It then lines up perfectly with the hood latch support brace. I drilled a hole in the brace and moved a horn out of the way and bolted it in at the top. It is secure and won't go anywhere! No need to take the bumper off to install.

Looks good and it is centered in the bumper, with the bottom being higher than the tow hooks and in line with the bottom of the bumper. It should be safe from getting hit by speed bumps etc. Once I get a new bumper it will look even better.

No lag, instant spool with this cooler and piping. And I just know the charge air is cooler than with the stocker.:icon_bigg
