Exactly, all in one dash is where it's at for that amount of information.
I love the old school dash top full of gauges but when you add up the cost you're not saving anything, boils down to aesthetics and style at that point.

Also why are the other big names not on the original list, HKS, GReddy, Apexi, Blitz DC etc?

I have a set of Greddy as well but I don't want metric units.

My statement is the same as in SF.

forget the multi plethora of gauges which are about as useful as a case of hemeriods while taking a shit, especially if they are not in your line of site of the road.

One gauge + idiot lights. Done.

AiM dash
Racepak
MoTeC
EFI Technologies
Bosch
Race Technolgy Dash2
RLC racing Pro-X.

done.

The airplane cockpit look is inefficent and takes away from the drivers primary job. Looking at the road!

and look at Ron's (or IJ's) install for MoTeC, Duane has the AiM.

K.I.S.S principle does apply here ;)

Most of these are out of the price range of most people though...

Autometer makes one as well with a big central speedo for about $1400.

I have been doing some research on the AIM dash and it does not seem to be worth it as much. Here is my reasoning,

http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.asp?RecId=5094 Dash $719.00 One Temperature Sensor
http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.asp?RecID=5220 Oil Pressure Sensor $149.00
http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.asp?RecID=5223 Boost Sensor $72.00

That is more than what I am spending on four autometer or Defi gauges. Am I missing something? Not saying that to be an idiot, but really, is there something I am overlooking?

Look at the features it has right out of the box. Normal gauges can't compete, but it's still expensive as hell for the average MKIII owner...

I don't consider myself the average MKIII owner, if you were implying that. I don't go to autozone and try to cheap my way out of doing anything. The features it has such as MPH, I won't use. For data logging I am not going to use as I have a AEM waiting to go in. If it can use stock sensors, excluding the oil pressure and oil temperature sensor, then I might consider it.

If you look at Mobes build thread his AEM Uego had the back melt before it was even installed... wtf

Seriously? I'm intrigued. I'll have to go dig for that.

Still waiting on the pictures from my buddies of theirs.

I got the following:

Defi Oil Pressure
Defi Oil Temperature
Defi Engine Temperature
Defi Boost
Defi Exhaust Gas Temp
Defi Fuel Pressure
AEM Wideband

Yes, those are a lot of gauges but they monitor everything and I have a neat way to mount them.

After having done the airplane cockpit of GReddy gauges years ago, I wish I had gone this route; knowing what I know now.

Care to share how you are mounting them?

I know that is a good choice. I using the AIM dash on my 2J Supra but I got all of those gauges for less than half of what the dash cost....

You do the Math....

It is a bit more expensive to go with a dash, but I have probably got $800 in gauges so the difference is within the "worth it" range for some.

BTW, GReddy gauges, at least the old school green/amber ones are extremely high quality - certainly not saying otherwise.

They are terrific gauges.. I love the HKS/Apexi/Defi sets that use the control unit.

I have a set of the green and amber gauges for sale as well, new in box. I don't like the scales.

I was actually looking for some 52mm versions of what I've got... too bad yours are white. :/

Just a quick FYI:

For anyone that is using a standalone, you can buy the cable that connects the racepak display to your standalone, and it will display anything that your standalone can log. What does this mean? It means that you can wire in all your stock sensors, and then have the racepak display it without having to buy anymore sensors. So for the price of all your defi gauges, you could have went with a nice display that would do all that and more.
