i wondered this myself.... i've never driven the car untill the light when on. I might actually do that some time and see how far i can drive b4 the car runs out of gas.

I wouldn't if I were you, since the answer of 2-3 gallons should be adequate enough. Mostly because you don't want any of the particles of whatever is in at the bottom of the tank to get shot through your injectors.

Sorry to be a bit off-topic, but how bright are your fuel lights? I can HARDLY see mine when it comes on if there's any sort of glare! I usually wait 'till it comes on and has been on for a bit before I get gas, so it's really annoying in day light when I have to cup my hand over it to see if it's lit (and sometimes still can't tell)... At night it's usually fine though!

PS--> I usually drive 20-30 "easy" miles after the light comes on (I milk it, I don't rev or accelerate hard).

Justin - fill up your tank when it comes on and let us know how much it takes. The tank holds 18 gallons right?

It comes on at 3 gallons, but goes on and off after that because gasoline sloshes, I tested it with the gas pump as well, but it also says it in the OWNERS MANUAL! haha

My 91 sort of fades in and out when the gauge reads about 1/8 of a tank. I just ignore the light, and fill up when my car has trouble starting, which is when there's about 2.5 gallons left.

it also says in the owners manual to not drive it around with the light on, but to get fuel immediately or engine damage could occur...

yes it's dim, and yes I drive around on it. it comes on at around 3 gallons left...

Im trying to run out most of all the old gas thats in my tank so Ill test it and see how far I can go normal driving before it runs out. Going to make sure I fill up the gas jug the day the light comes on. LOL.

It gets brighter the lower the fuel gets.
