Free play on the crank pulley?

make sure everything is out of the way and go from fender to fender as you'll take up the slack in the drivetrain and then you start actually torquing it down...

never had an issue doing it that way tightening/loosening (use different gears if you have to, you'll find one that works)

Might try that out...

I sinched up a pulley to my sway bar, and used that to hold the crank pulley in place to break it off... Worked pretty well, another option.

Ah, breaking it off is the easy part. You just put a socket on it, rest the handle on the ground, and crank the motor a few times.

Yeah... But my motor wasn't/isn't intact, so thats a no go.
