Am I correct in assuming there are now 14 mortal sins?

The article doesn't make it very clear as to whether the new 7 sins are venial or mortal....

This seems to be the one issue that SC and I disagree on. We see eye to eye on just about everything I've ever seen him type.

Catholics go about religion and faith in entirely the wrong way. Ugh what retards.

Drugs - Causes harm to oneself.

Pollution - Causes harm to the world HE created

Genetic Manipulation - Who possibly could do a better job than God himself here. Maybe a man made copy would be perfect in the beginning, but it would come with no guaranty for the future.

How retarded????????

Drugs? Women: sorry, but the pope has deemed it a sin to go through labor with any narcotic pain reliever. Got a headache? Migraine? PUT DOWN THE ADVIL!!! God wanted you to have that blistering pain all the live long day.

Pollution? Don't drive a car. Or a motorcycle. Just walk. Ya, that works. :sarcasm:

Genetic manipulation? Ya, because Jimmy was SUPPOSED to be born with a horrible disease or cancer before age 5.

Organized religion is a horrible thing, imo.

By calling something such as pollution a sin that you'll go to hell for.
Hey, don't throw away anything! Everything must be 100% recycled! Cause if its not, its polluting the environment!! You're telling me that people will go to hell for throwing stuff out? That they need to go to confession because they used no recyclable goods? GTFO.

That being said, it should be everyone's personal responsibility to take care of the environment. TAKE CARE of it. Not go to hell because its IMPOSSIBLE for us not to pollute.

The drugs bit I understand, your body is God's temple. The Genetics bit I get, but don't agree with. But either way, saying its a SIN AGAINST GOD AND YOULL GO TO HELL is not the way religion should work. Granted I have a fundamental conflict with catholism, I don't believe you should have to go through ANY man to communicate with God. Catholics go about religion in this manner: "follow our rules, or confess to a man, or burn in hell" whereas I believe religion should be "Try your damnedest to follow God's word, live as best you can, treat others well, and have a personal relationship with God."

Go Martin Luther! heh

I'm not particularly religious, and I had a teacher in high school try to fail me...she was about as hardcore Catholic as you got, and I was heavily into my Goth faze...we never quite saw eye to eye on anything.

Ended up getting a formal apology from her, and she got 2 weeks suspension without pay, after telling the entire class I was in the "looney-bin," when I had a severe emotional breakdown.

Organized religion is a load of bullshit, to me. :) I say believe in what you want, when you want, and where you want...but don't shove it in my face and expect me to believe in it too.

To each his own. As long as they don't try to make it law and enforce it on me, they are welcome to whatever they want to believe.

Personally I think the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster probably has it close to right...
