I'm not giving up yet! But, after I get it helicoiled, re-timed, put all back together, Throttle body re-installed, and it still idles high, I'm going to be really pissed........even though I don't expect it to be idling right when all is done.

I talked to my Brother in Law today, and he thinks he can help with the helicoil.

Did you check for vacuum leaks and any code 51? I know you are not a noob, so don't get pissed off because I am asking a noob question. Clean/functional IACV?

I have checked so many things, it's hard to remember what all I have done. I don't specifically remember checking for vaccuum leaks, but I may have. It is starting to make sense that there is air getting in, that doesn't pass through the throttle body. The motor couldn't run that hard without air, and the TB is closed at idle. I believe while the motor can't run, I should go ahead and pull the intake manifold and plenum, and check out those brand new gaskets. Noah told me he had the same problem, and new gaskets, but when he finally checked them, that was the problem.

I would never get pissed at anyone trying to help. I am pretty sure I have posted in here about not having a working check engine light, so I don't know if I have codes. I do have a working IACV (actually have 2 tested per TSRM), and the check valve behind it is clean and installed properly.

Sorry to hear abuot the problems Scott. It sounds like you need to buy another supra..........that way you're ALWAYS expecting something to be messed up with at least one of them.


In all fairness to supras everywhere, I finally have two perfectly running cars and I know I just jinxed myself ridiculously by posting that. Im sure I'll be getting a call from Vonda any minute now telling me she's broke down on the side of the road.............lol

Seriously though......I am put long hard thought into starting a "going back to stock" sale tomorrow. The family could use the money, and I believe the car may appreciate it too. I'd much rather drive a stock supra, than look at a broke supra every time I go in or out of my house. There is no guaranty that going stock will get it running any quicker, but I think it should help. I'll still need to fix the threads in my head, and hope to get a smooth idle. I've got to investigate what I think I can make, and what all I will have to buy to replace the goodies, but I think this is going to happen soon. It won't be a drastic sale, only power mods. No suspension or body mods will happen yet.

Maybe you should just get a 5M like I did. Then you can take that cover on and off in like 5 mins.

Ya, me too! I think Milo's head used to go a bit higher than it does nowin the sig, but he is quite ashamed. I wouldn't hold my head high either Milo, 2 may be great, but it still does not measure up to MK3 with Uber mods.

I have started the part sell off, and may have found my problem while pulling my injectors. When I pulled the intake plenum, I didn't find a broken gasket like I suspected. i actually found that I have 2 gaskets in it????????????? One is brand new, and the other is good except for a broken bolt hole. It has a piece missing behind the bolt, furthest from the intake as possible. I'm assuming either the extra gasket, or the missing piece was the problem, allowing unmetered air to enter the intake and causing the high idle. Can anybody confirm my suspicion?

So, I finally got off my ass again, and think I have fully figured out my idle problem. I pulled the lower intake manifold this morning, and found that brand new gasket to be broken in half. Between that, and the dual gaskets on the other end of it, I believe there was quite a bit of unmetered air getting in.

There is still a lot of work to go to get it all back together tho. I have to install the stock intercooler and piping, stock injectors, re-run the stock fuel lines and J-tube, re-route for a stock BOV, and get the head re-tapped to install the thermostat housing (waiting on help), and who knows what else. I have no daylight after work anymore, and I am pretty lazy on the weekends. I guess another month or two, and maybe I can try to start it again.LOL

Scott I'm happy to see a return to stock approach. You'll fall back in love with your car when it's running like it's suppose to.

As nice as this 92 is, it deserves to stay as close to stock as it can. It will have very close to what the grey car had though. I still have the same intake, and exhaust that was on that car, but now it will have a full 3" exhaust from the turbo back, with no elbow this time. I will have to obtain a manual boost controller, and it will then be just as that car was, and I loved it like it was. So, you are right Ken!

With it getting dark before I get home from work, and me working a lot of Saturdays, I'm not getting far with the putting things back part. Sunday is my only day of rest, and I find it hard to go out and mechanic on that one day. I did, however, get my battery removed from the trunk, and mounted in the correct location with the good tie downs today. I still have to get a gasket before I can put my intake manifold back on, and install the stock injectors I got.

nice find the interior plastic looks to be in good shape and the body from what i can see in the pics looks like it dont have dents in it nice base for a sweet mk3 build

I made a small amount of progress today. I was finally able to get my hands on an intake gasket locally (to be installed tomorrow). I did get my battery cables removed from the back of the car. They are not yet installed up front because of the intake manifold mess up front though. I also got my stock intercooler mounted up. The piping I got is not complete, and the piece coming off of the turbo is split, so I still have to work on the piping a bit.

Tomorrow's plan is to install the lower intake manifold, and start soldering in stock injector slips, so I can install the injectors and the rail. I'm hoping to get that much done, but I'm helping my brother move, so I can't be sure that it will get finished. I'd love to even get the battery cables run, and start on adding the plenum as well, but I know that much is pushing it. But, I now see the possibility of getting back together soon, so I'm motivated to keep at it finally. I just wish I had some lighting to work on it after work in the evenings.

PS.....Anybody have the upper IC hardpipe, and the lower one coming off the turbo? I may use a piece of extra DIY piping from Driftmotion, but I'd have to get another couple to mate up to the turbo if I did that. The one I had went with the kit I sold.

Scott, I had all of the piping, but I gave it to a guy here locally. I'll see what I have left and then I'll see what he didn't use and get it back from him. It may be wednesday before I see him, but I'll see what I can do. You know if I have it, I'll have it shipped to you the next day.

Thanks Jay, that wasn't directed at you, ya know. If anybody, I may have thought of a certain guy in Texas, who has been through a few turbo parts cars/motors in the last couple of years.

As for the title, maybe" ForcedTorque's cursed build....will it ever run?" I'm seeing a light at the end of the tunnel now though. Maybe it's not a mirage.

I've got one still attached to the turbo right now. It's oily as hell and I don't know that it'd be in any better condition than the one you've got now. I'll look at it tomorrow when I get home. If it's not cracked and is still a little soft it's yours free of charge. I'm going with the Speed Source hard pipe like I used on the others.
