So, I guess I haven't mentioned in here that the postal job didn't work out. I wasn't given the 3 weeks to run the complete route that they told me it would take to be able to finish without help, so they "cut their losses" at 2 1/2 weeks, just as I got to the point that I could do it. Unemployment again, damnit!

The car still needs a good TPS, and now the fuel pump is having issues as well. I think the fuel pump problem is a wiring issue (my connections falling apart), or a dead Walbro. I'll have to pull the tank again to figure it out. It is getting 12 volts coming out of my 12 volt relay toward the pump. There are two place I cut wires from there (1 inside and 1 outside of the tank).

So, I got to drive the car a little bit today. I connected the battery, and heard the fuel pump fire off. I grabbed my keys and had put them in the ignition, and just before turning, I remembered I had no throttle body on it. After installing my old bad throttle body (not the bad replacement I bought), it fired right up, and was way better than how it recently had run. My rear tires were both kinda low, so I drove it to the truck stop to air them up a bit. At first, it ran great in the driveway. Before driving, it got to the point that it would cut fuel around 1700 rpm. Driving it, it did the same, so at lower rpm's it was really rough. Once I got it to somewhere between 2000-2500, it would run good. First and second gear pulls through the neighborhood were a bit too much like that, but otherwise was really not good for the car. I got a chance to boost the car a bit, and hear it blow off, so I'm stoked!

I took the car out the other day, and for the first time, the fuel pump quit while driving. In the past, it either works or doesn't whenever I hook the battery up. It stalled as I came out of my neighborhood, and I coasted into the McDonald's right there. While coasting, I ran over something that punctured the tire. I had a fiasco trying to change that tire that required 3 trips up there just to get the tire off. I tried to start it on each occasion.

I played around with the wiring connection on the last trip, when I took the tire off to go get it repaired. When I returned with the good tire, it fired right up!!!!!!!! So, I believe that I have found out which wiring connection is giving me problems. It has worked ever since. I have been driving around the corner to work on a paint job I am doing for my brother in law's house, and it has made 7-8 trips in the last few days. I will be re-doing the connection there in the trunk hole. And, I am still needing to replace the TPS, but unemployment has not been kind to me.

BTW.....Finally I have a couple of pictures with a different background than my yard.

At least you're doing something, lol.

Absolutely!!!!!!!! I FINALLY secured myself employment, so I will finally be doing something. I start Monday at Ayres Composite Panels (http://www.ayrescom.com/default.asp). I will be building panels for the new LCS2 Navy vessel, so the job should be secure. The pay won't quite be what the postal job promised, but at least I will be bringing home a paycheck, and be able to get back on my feet.

Ayres is an Australian company, so Kristel and IJ may have knowledge of them. They tell me that a trip to Australia in the future is not out of the question.

Just re-read the whole thread. I'm now highly motivated to do my swap and re-pin my harness from my 87 turbo into my 91. What other problems did you run into with the harness other then the pins themselfs falling out?

The only problems I had were those pins falling out......because I didn't change to the proper terminals at first, and the fact that I had 2 red wires with a black stripe. I also had a few wires that were not used in the 92, so they went nowhere. I still have a couple of issues.

1. I get power to my AFC-NEO whenever my battery is hooked up. I can't find any other wire to power it, and not screw anything else up.

2. My check engine light will not work, so I can't check codes.

If I had it to do again (I do , don't I ), I'd prefer to just get the right harness, and use a patch harness for the NEO. One day this will happen, but not yet.

What about using the original engine harness and ECU plug but re-pinning the dash harness to power the accessories in the car vs the engine? I'm standing at that point and can't find anybody with a 91 turbo harness anywhere. I considered using my 87 harness and ECU but re-pining the dash harness.

I hope to be ordering a new TPS for the car this week or next, as soon as some income starts coming in again. I will be calling Champion Toyota, and speaking with Jeff Watson for the part. I'll post his number after I get my phone out of my car.

I did talk to Jeff at Champion about a harness, before re-pinning mine. He quoted me right around $500 (I think $507) for a new harness out of Japan. It would take about 6 weeks to get it though. One day, that is the route I will go.

Good luck with the wiring issues. Just thought I would mention Jeff retired from Champion recently. Kinda sucks as he was great to deal with.

SHIT! I was going to call him tomorrow when I get paid. Is there anyone else I should ask for, and should I expect to be able to get the pricing that he would have given me?

I too was going to mention that Jeff moved his family back somewhere and doesn't work for Champion any more. I can't remember who I ended up speaking with last time Scott, but the pricing seemed the same. Good luck.

I am so tired of fooling with this damn car!

So, I finally decided to let someone else set my TPS in yet another attempt to tame my out of control idle. While it was in the shop, I started to put things back together that have been pulled off to work on it. In an attempt to put the timing cover back on, one of the 2 thermostat cover bolts broke off. I had a couple of spare housings, so I took the route of replacing it, because I didn't want to fight trying to get the broken bolt out. In order to get the housing off, you have to remove the TPS. I then got all of the sensors swapped over to the donor housing. Then, today, as I attempted to put all that back together again, the F'ing bolt that screws into the head (other 2 have nuts to go onto a stud) went in smoothly until it was hand tight, then as I tightened it, it felt like that bolt broke off. I backed it out, and it brought with it what looked like someone had helicooiled it. It was about 3 full threads attached to my bolt, that easily screwed right off once out of the car.

All I wanted to do was put a damn un-needed cover back on the motor. How do I fix the damn head, so that I can re-attach the housing? After that, I can attach the housing, pull the friggin timing cover back off, set the timing again, put the cover back on, put the thermostat cover on, and then I'll have that stupid cover on like I wanted. Then, I can install the throttle body again, and again be frustrated that the idle still isn't right. I'm SO ready to give up!

I love all your sounds.
^^ I agree.
I drove my MKII to a meet last Saturday, its first time on the road after total motor rebuild. As I headed out the following Sunday morning, I saw the oil puddles... I thought about waiting until I have more time during the winter to deal with all this. I puled the motor on Monday, fixed the issues, and put it back in on Fri/Sat. Problem solved and on the road, and I'm really glad I did it.
