:)

Same here except I did buff the dullness out of them. I'm going to keep my car as true to it's year model as possible. Besides, I think the pre 89 has a more aggressive look.

Sawbladz: WTF are you talking about. Your car has a super sweet ass!

Borhor: You're right. This is a pointless thread. It's a matter of taste. Simple as that.

I like the 89+ our cars are all about the long body lines natural in the car. The 3 piece 89+ 's just let the body lines flow. John's Look absolutely Pristeen did you use any polish?

i have 89 tails aswell but, they have cracks, leaks, and are missing some nuts here and there. i do need to pick up the middle peice again...and find one more nut for the top left part of the light on the left side. they do looks good but i need to find a center section with a matching trim for my burgundy car...otherwise i just might have to paint the entire trim black.

Yes, I polished mine...and I can do yours too for a small fee...:biglaugh:

I use Zaino products on the lights as well as my paint. Hmm...I think it's time I made a new signature.

Check my sig for the link, but we're having a group buy for smoked taillight covers, and I was wondering if it's even worth doing a set for the pre-89. No offense guys. I love  the pre-89 front, but the tails are horrendous.

So I wonder, if you have the pre-89 tails, why?

I have the pre-89 tails... .infact I have a mint condition set of refurbished ones with clear lenses I paid $600 for and shipped from the UK! Here's a pic:

I like the 89+ as well don't get me wrong. But my car is an 88, I love my car, and there's very little aesthetics/looks-wise I wish to change. It's like a philosophical thing... why not change to a 93+ rear spoiler? Everyone has their preferences. If you're determined to change so many things about your car why not just get the car you want?

BTW: I had tinted tail lights before and it looked good I thought, but I prefer a nice clean stock looking set instead.

When showing my friends that aren't car enthusiasts other Supras and show them pre89's they say it looks like a piece of shit, I show them an 89+ and they think its a different car. I think the tails have a lot to do with that, if I had pre89 tails I DEF be interested in 89+ darker tail covers.

Are post 89 tails more popular with most people?

Yes.

Do post 89 tails look better?

No.

Why are post-89 tails more popular if they don't look as good as pre-89's?

Most people (incorrectly) think newer and/or bigger is better. Also, lots of other people don't trust their own judgement so they mirror what others have done (usually using the faulty "bigger and/or newer is better criteria").

The pre-89 tail lights have an "era-correct" classic, no-nonsense look that is truer to the lines of the body than the newer/bigger post-89 tails. They were also the design when the car was created, so in the purist sense they are the "correct" tail light for the Supra.

Undesputable is the fact that post-89 tail lights are an afterthought measure, and not of the original design, tacked on to "update" the look of the car.

Need I say more?:sarcasm:

I've always said that pre-89 is the original design of the supra, and that the 89+ components are just pieces that were thrown on in an attempt to update the look.

Although I'm not saying the 89+ looks bad, I think it looks quite good, actually...but the pre-89 look is the "original" supra design.

I don't really think either one looks bad. Small updates are always done to vehicles.

I really like certain things about the -89 front and rear - this is true as well for the 89+.

Just about the only thing I don't like is the tacked-on brake light from the 1987 spoiler.

Pre 89 taillights have to have work done to them in order to get them right. Either disassembly or by adding a mere smoked plastic guard. If you can do it and the price is right you might have potential.

Supra was too hideous to bring into the 90's.

I would of done the same thing too

Some guy's cut the post out of their '63 split window corvette's to make them look like '64's. I'm sure they thought it was an upgrade.

Supra of any year hideous? :3d_frown:

Can anyone tell me what company makes the splitter thing under the bumper in this pic?

Personally I didn't think the pre89s looked good on my car with the bomex parts. The car looked less 80s, but the tails still did. However, on the 89+ tails i hated how the center piece isnt the exact same shade of red, and i like the look of split lights. So i Had the center piece painted with my car to match, love the look.

Also some things to consider is Your 89+ lights on a pre89 = 89+ moulding under neither the tails. unless if you modify it. which is actually pretty easy to do. Also Your lock won;t directly fit into the 89+ tails, which means 2 keys to carry around. But That can also be easily modified with a bracket.
