Flames out of the exhaust?

ok, ive been wondering exactly what upgrade is needed to make flames (the little ones, not the flamethrowers that hot rodders do) come out of your exhaust. i see la mans cars and such do it all the time, and recently ive seen a lot of local tuners with it. usually its when the acellerator is pushed for the first time, or released. at first i thought it was just for show, but ive been watching a lot of rally racing, and even those cars will put a little flame out every once in a while. just curious what exactly makes it happen.

Mine spits fiyahhh on decel after a hard pull (higher RPM) I have a video somewhere of mine doing while sitting and just revving.
A straight exhaust will do the trick, but I would hope that you would buy parts to make it perform better and not to get flames...cause that makes you a "ricer"

i agree with Aye Mate on this one... my old WRX would spit some flames after a hard pull... all you need is to run a catless exhaust and that should get you some flames. be ready to have to clean the black soot off your rear bumper on a weekly basis though.

Run rich, with an exhaust leak somewhere near the front and flames will come out the back, My car does it all the time.

I have GOT to hold the title for LOUDEST backfire in the world. Forget flames...we are talking like Japan attacking Pearl Harbor type explosions coming from beneath my car (open-cutout after DP). I'm running all 3", no cat/resonator, ported turbo elbow, 3" DP, and ugh...It's just stupid how loud and big the explosion is from under my car...I LOVE IT. :love:

My tps was misaligned and after i realigned it, it off set my timing. so when i would engine break. I kid you not, it would sadder my ear drums.

Its not a good idea to do it on purpose. on race cars and main turbochargered race cars, its done on purpose to help keep the turbo spooled during deceleration. It is actually programmed to do that by richening the mixture and retarding the timing during deceleration thus sending burning fuel mixture into the exhaust. This burning mixture helps to keep the turbo somewhat spooled.

The reason that it is not a good idea no matter how cool it may seem is cause the turbo and front portion of the exhaust will be short lived.

I remember the good old days of 3" exhaust, a good DP, and making it backfire when people were walking really close to the street and watching them jump... Damn I need to get my mkIII going.

My WRX would light my bumper on fire while doing highway pulls while tuning my turbo xs utec.Lol it melted my bumper to my exhaust tip once hows a 7:1 fuel ration doing you :naughty:
