If you can source a set of FD Rx7 stock wheels, they make for a good, cheap drag setup. They're light, but still 16's. As for tires, I have 275/40/17 Nitto NT05's on Mk4 9.5" wheels, and I'd love to see how they do out of the hole launching on boost. Trouble is, nearest track to me is over 100 miles away. For comparison's sake though, they're VERY sticky for a street tire, and I have yet to even chirp them really... Launching on boost would be a whole different story.

What you should take away from this though, is that you want as much grip as you need, but no more than necessary (for weight reasons). That, and Devin's a beast with the results to back up what he says, so I'd listen to him. ;)

Or if you could get some Mk3 NA's rear wheels, theyre wide and are super light and they're 16's so you can get a meatier tire!

ok so I went to the track with my mk4's wrapped in khump ecsta v700's in 245/40/17's. I kept bogging! It was SUPER STICKY!!! i dumped the clutch at 4000rpm's and i got wheel hop. my fastest time was 13.9

this weekend, i will be swapping in a 4.10 NA LSD differential, removing my rear polyurethane subframe bushings, and removing my front sway bar when i go back to the track.

With that trap speed and driver mod the car should be 12.8-13.0

By the way I run with all my sway bars connected, stock suspension other than springs..

well once my boy emails me the video of the run, i will post it for everyone to see. i just cant get my launch correct for whatever reason. maybe i need to go to 4500-5000 rpm's? i dont know

Well, for reference, I launched at 5500, and like it's been said, DO NOT dump your clutch. Watch this:

Not about drag racing, but it stresses the importance of being smooth with your inputs. If you're impatient, skip to about 6:30 or so, and you'll see what I'm getting at. Dumping a clutch really won't do you any favors unless you're dealing with a proper setup, i.e. slicks, progressively engaging clutch, etc... but for a street setup, you really need to get a better feel for your clutch. Dumping will nearly *always* result in bogging if you don't launch high enough, or tire spin and wheel hop if you launch too high. There might be a mid point that's perfect for your setup, but good luck finding it. You'll be better off letting off the clutch completely AFTER you're getting boost.

Thanks, That was meh, 1.7 60ft My other one was a 1.6 but I forgot to take the trans out of overdrive and it shifted way to early would have been a 12.5 run I think
