I think I got it. The BVSV is on the thermostat neck, and opens above 54c. Then and only when the throttle plate is above the purge port(vac line on throttle body) it will "suck fumes" from the CC which has a check valve that wont let any tank fumes pass until 2psi is reached in the tank from the fuel itself evaporating.

I think....

^^^ I think you got the idea ;)

So the 2psi is simply maintained inside the tank via the fumes inside the tank, with no pressurization from the intake?

If so then DAMN - gasoline is more volatile than I thought!

Once it's there, it's easy to maintain ;)
And, on a fill up, the available empty space at the top of the tank is quite small...doesn't take long.

if this is the BVSV shown, then I really need to find out how the cannister connects in the JDM set-up, as I don't have the one on the thermostat neck.

Since there is no EGR on the JDM engines, would the canister be connected directly to the VSV under the intake manifold? (Not really sure how that would work, from what I can tell about the layout here "http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=EC&P=4

I've linked the two ports on the top of the USDM throttle body I'm using; iirc, the JDM part only had one vacuum port (I'd have to dig it out of storage to be certain). Could it be that this one port goes to the VSV, and from there to the canister? Or is it more likely I'm missing some of the JDM parts?

edit: i was just looking at some more vacuum routing diagrams ([URL="http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128[/URL]) - the one VSV I have is for the fuel pressure regulator. So I'm definately missing something from between the TB and the charcoal cannister.

That's what I had concluded after looking at it further - but I'm still uncertain how the port on the TB connects with the canister, without the BVSV. Surely it wouldn't have connected straight to the TB, would it?

Also, the engine-top metal piping seems to be the same - there must be/have been something on the passenger side that would have done the job of the BVSV, I would think.

Sorry for getting this a bit off-topic, btw.

Oh my! i just went and looked at my engine after reading this and i noticed that i never reinstalled a charcoal canister after my 1j build. here is a pic. The fuel is evaporating in my engine bay. What is the part number for the jdm canister? I dont think the stock one could possibly fit in that tight space now.
Sorry for the bad pic, i just zoomed in on one of my engine bay pix.

Wow this thread turned out to have tons of great information.

Good work guys :bigthumb:

Looks like I'll be placing a few WTB threads.

Post I just made in the WTB thread>>

There are a whole heap of Japanese cars that run a compact plastic CC, only thing you have to be aware of is that they have a non return valve in the small vacc fitting that goes to the BSV on the water neck.

You can test this by blowing into it, if you can it doesn't have the valve needed.

pickapart type places should have it.
