The strakes are a great idea although you'd need more clearance. Directing to the brakes is good and also directing air around the tire.

You're basically describing a front air splitter. They're very functional and keep a lot of air from going underneath the car; You also need to have more clearance since the lowest part of your car will now be farther out.

I wouldn't recommend using any kind of plastic/lexan. I have tried both (3 with the plastic you described and 1 sheet of lexan) and all of them broke in some way in a matter of time.

I have driven my car like a race car on two or three occasions. I mean full throttle, full brakes, full throttle, full brakes... rinse and repeat for about 20-30 mins each occasion. My temp needle NEVER moved once. NOT AT ALL. It stayed just below halfway the ENTIRE TIME without an engine undercover.

The turbo car I have with a shitty radiator and shitty cap and no undercover also does not change temp under consecutive full throttle pulls.

I don't think the difference is noticeable at all using the stock water temp gauge unless you have other cooling system woes that the undercover is helping to mask.

IJ is the only person I have heard that has recorded temps in the bay and documented the difference.

All that being said, I know their is a temp difference with one, which is exactly why I just bought one. It irks me when people say the cover is vital to proper functionality of the car though. It's there to keep more air flow going by your engine/rad/IC, not keep your car from overheating.

funny how that stock temp gauge works!

From about 190 to about 210 that needle will NOT move. AT ALL. Pass 210 and then it starts to climb. Only way to TRUELY tell is to install an aftermarket temp gauge there.

When I used lexan it started cracking around the mounting holes about 4-5 months after installation. It never completely broke or shattered, but I removed it because I was unsure of it's stability.

Yeah that is the case with R/C car shells also. They start to spider along the holes. Only way that it did not is when I melted the holes (soldering iron) instead of drilling them out and then adding TWO washers, one on top and one on the bottom.

brake strakes sound pretty attractive. I like it. Properly designed, I don't see them taking up too much more room, if I have the same idea in my head that you all do.

Champion is taking forever to ship my undercover. Ordered 5 days ago, and it's still "Processing."

I didn't use washers on top but I did use them on the bottom and I also melted the holes instead of drilling. :icon_surp

I don't feel like reading all the crap in this this thread, I just want to know if pre 89 and 89+ share the same under cover, and if so, can I zip tie it on, or do I need special clasps, because sourcing them would be a bitch...
