Hey guys,

Ill start off by sayin that so far most of the guys and gals I've talked to here on SM as well as SF have been very helpful, friendly, and honest.. So keep it up people, and thank you!! I'll throw in a little backround of the car and myself as well as adding some pics as i go...

Now being a son of a man who has had many many cool cars and self built custom bikes, I naturally developed a liking to anything with an engine, especially racing and the cars that participate. This led to a gokart/shifter kart career/lifestyle that has lasted from age 7 to the present day..

When i turned 16, for some wacky reason i decide i want a real car.. Not really knowing what i can get for the money, I ask my older brother for assistance. We looked at 300zx's (he has a '90 na awaiting an LS6 T-56 :evil2: ), audi's, 240's, but nothing really fit my budget. One day when i was browsing ebay, my brother calls and says he found a near mint red '90 5spd, non turbo, with the sport package.. Now at the time i didn't know shit about mk3 supras other than there was a nice white one always parked at autozone, but the guys website told us it had H&R lowering springs, '95 na wheels, drilled and slotted rotors, K&N Fipk and almost no body damage!! It did, however have a BHG.. The car had 131,000 miles but looked inside and out like it had 60,000.. I was in love!

Back then, my brother josh was a mechanic for a toyota atlantic team (Cobb Brothers Racing), and didn't seem to think it would be too difficult to just buy a j-spec NA motor and swap it straight over.. Being that it would be my first swap as well, I agreed and back to Boulder we went.. Dude was askin somethin like $3,100 with a couple subs, stock sawblades, springs, and stereo thrown in.. So i decided to make him an offer of $2,100 w/o the subs and he took it. He was currently working the bugs out of his 6spd 2jzgte T-78 SC300 and said he needed the money.. Did I pay too much? Idk, but i was happy..

Shortly after getting the car nestled into the garage, i ordered the jspec motor, and in a couple long ass months of workin on it after school and work, the motor was in and runnin like a champ.. After putting about 12,000 some miles on that motor it randomly spun a bearing and developed some of the worst rod knock i have ever heard.. :biglaugh: (ya i laugh now but then my world stopped lol) This motor couldn't have picked a worse time to blow, because i was broke and workin at subway...:nono:

Again the supra sits in the garage while my dad and brother were kind enough to go halfs with me on a stock rebuild of the na.. Another couple of moronically long months come and go, and again the car is back up and running.. 7,800 miles of literally no red line shifting, perfect on-time mobil 10w30 every 2,500 miles, and always at least 87 octane fuel, and our fresh motor blows a ring... WTF!!??:aigo: All of this b/s made me want to burn the car to the ground and shit on the remains.. lol :aigo: In other words i tried to sell the car as is for about 2 months while i drove my dads POS chevy v6 truck.

As you can see i didnt sell it because no one gave me an offer i thought was "worth it". This car ironically became a part of me and now i dont know how i could have tried to sell it lol.. So i let the car sit for over a year while i saved the money for what you see before you today...
Ill give you an up to date list of parts i already have, and some of my hopefully, not to distant future plans. I am willing to hear anything any of you have to say; suggestions, tips, tricks, opinions, questions, comments and criticisms.. Please be as blunt or reserved as you wish, but most important of all BE HONEST!!!

Very clean looking car. Hope this one lasts longer than the others. Glad to see you're going to a turbo this time......................lol, and good luck.

i have that same exhaust and waiting a month longer than you. The funny thing is that i blew my HG while waiting for the exhaust, so now im down for a rebuild and will have to wait even longer to hear that exhaust.
Please make sure to post up some pix/vids of it installed and also write a review on the Rabid Chimp LB.

I think your gonna kill the W-58.

:biglaugh: I was waiting for this one... Yes, I know.. Current funds do not allow for the tranny swap, so this naturally makes me wonder how long the stock clutch (7,800mi) and tranny (161,000mi) are going to last with the mods I will have to start out with... Any ideas how much power i should have with my current mods, and how long with that combo last under those conditions? I think/hope ill have around 270 at the flywheel but thats a personal estimate..

9psi on my old GT30r was about the limit of the rebuilt 58 I had back then.... it started showing signs of stress so instead of killing it I pulled it.

what were you using for a clutch?? Im in the process of gettin a TC70 P-trim and was debating whether or not to get an R154 in first.. Probably the smartest option, but i really dont know the true limits of the W58... I've thought of possibly having the W58 built because i heard it has higher gear ratios and i plan to do some autocross.. However I really don't know what that would cost in comparison to the R154 swap.

An ACT Street and I wasn't making a lot of hp but had a bucket load of torque down low from a tight AR so I think/feel that's what was tearing it up.

So in your opinion, would it be worth it to buy a nicer clutch and have the w58 rebuilt? Or would it be more practical/cost effective to just do the 154 swap?

so im for sure going to swap trannies ive concluded... so now the question at hand is what all do i need for the r154 swap? i've done the search thing but this is all i've come up with: tranny, drive shaft, clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder, inspection plate... what else? anything?
bueller....? bueller...? :biglaugh:
