I couldn't stand looking at the muffler I put on when I first got the car any longer, so I hacked it off and welded up a new axle-back section...
I found this muffler on ebay, it's made by Jones Full Boar exhaust (in the USA) and for $45 shipped it was a pretty sweet deal. It's their Max Flow SS model. It's 409 stainless, fully welded, perforated core with stainless wool and ceramic wool packing. The interesting thing is the tube that goes through it is one mandrel bent piece, not a a diagonal pipe welded in with separate welded outlets. Supposedly it flows better than maganflow offset mufflers because of this. This is a cutaway from their website if you can't picture what I mean.
I also picked up a 180 degree 3" 409 stainless bend and cut it to make the Z shape I needed.
Old...
Test fit...
I needed a new muffler hanger cause the stock one was rusted, so I found a muffler hanger from my old eclipse and bolted it to the left hanger bolt hole and welded a hanger bracket I found on an old muffler in the scrap pile to the new muffler. Worked out beautifully.
I also needed a tip to extend the exhaust to the back of the bumper, so I cut a piece of the 304 stainless pipe from the old exhaust and repolished it. I didn't want a "bling" looking tip. This one is nice and classy.
Tacked and ready to weld...
Done and painted silver.... (which I decided looked odd)
So I repainted it flat black.... much better.
It sounds really nice, it has a good deep growl at idle, but it's quiet on the highway, and it sounds nice when you open it up. I'll try to get a video if I can (I only have my cell phone, I don't know how well it takes video).
