Faulty Expansion Valve Recall

I noticed at school today that there is a recall/service bulliten about a faluty expansion valve so i called toyota today and asked about it. After giving my life away she told me that yeah, there is a recall and i can bring it into a dealer for free service.
Since i am nowhere near the origional owner of the car am i still qualified? Would anything disqulify me from having the work done such as having 134a in there? I guess i should have asked but i didn't really think about it.

O rly? Everywhere I've looked has said there was never any recall for Supras..

There was 89 + supras had the recall. Had mine done, and the tech screwed some shit up. Ended up with a new toyota compressor, new rubber lines, new expansion valve and the lines going to them, and R12 back in the system, along with a new dryer.

Cost me 0.free

Nope. '89+ only. The one and only recall on the Mk3.

89+ had the recall. Mine was done. You retrofitted your ac though and that might cancel your qualification.

Well actually i didn't put the 134a fittings on it, but there is 134a in it. I'll still give it a try.

First off, the head gasket is such a huge and expensive job to do to hundreds of thousands of cars.

Second off, take a look at other companies. Having a head gasket fail at 150,000 miles is not that bad. Even if it failed as early as 80,000 miles, its not that huge of a deal compared to other cars, especially performance cars like the turbo model.

Well these issues were owner caused in a sense. Even though there was a guy who claimed he never over heated and got a BHG. :3d_frown:
In the supras defense the gauge does stay in one place for 100 Degrees.

Also the supra was limited production and the 4Runner wasn't.

Also i bet someones ac blew up! (Safety Issue)

But to the OP: Let me know! My supra also has a Conversion, and i'm going to call the dealer and see if my supras valve was done. was done.

Technically the HG wasnt an inferior/defective part, it was just not torqued correctly. As was mentioned, they all lasted quite a while, so instead of being annoyed at Toyota for not doing something about their own mistake, the best way to look at it is that you should be proud of it lasting that long; had certain other companies been responsible, this likely wouldve happened much sooner, and instead of a raging success, the MkIII couldve been a colossal failure.

In any case, thats not what this thread is about.

If the expansion valve is screwed up, you'll lose the A/C from leaks or compresser death if I remember correctly...

Yup, it said leak from the valve. Hopefully i'll get to the dealer tomorrow so we'll see what happens then.

gixxer: how long ago did you get the work done? The dealer is saying the low pressure side hose is discontinued...

My A/C has been empty for a while. I'm going to call Toyota tomorrow and ask if they can check to see if my VIN has ever had it's valve replaced per the recall and if not, I'll see if they can fix it. Longshot, but I'll try.

I had it done about a year ago. pick up a hose from the parts store and have them install. It runs about 25 dollars IIRC

HG material was changed early in the 7M's production life but the torque spec wasn't updated to the correct spec for the new material used.
