Do not forget, I have had 9 Supras, two of them being red. One was a SDR automatic hardtop, so I am not "completely" biased :)

5 spd swap isn't too bad, especially when you're doing it at the same time as an engine swap, like I did. Red is also a target for cops. I have yet to be pulled over in my black car, despite almost every light on my car being non-DOT and drifting, racing, etc

Cop target I am not, and Corvallis is pretty relaxed. Its not like I drive on freeways to get around down here. Ive had one speeding ticket in over 12 years and that one one was in Junction City for only 43 in 35 (bastard speed trap towns).

Well yesterday I was leaning towards the black one, and today Im leaning toward the black one. Delivered to my door with a 5spd already in it for $500 less purchase price. Its pretty tempting.

Weez, that black car looks straighter than mine (from the little you can see in the pics). With the exception of the hood, it looks pretty good. Get some better pics of this thing, interior and exterior ASAP before someone snatches it!

Oh, and it's an '86, pretty rare :)

Ive called the guy a couple times now trying to get pics. He said the hood was sanded down and then left that way, so its dull but straight. There is a dent in the right rear quarter behind the mud flap about grapefruit size. Its otehrwise pretty straight.

What I really want to see is if the interior is serviceable. I can deal with needing cleaned, but missing panels/cracks serious stains and severe fading are the things Im trying to avoid.

Interior needs a little cleaning obviously. This one really looks to be in nice shape for $1500

Trying to get pics of that. Not really that fond of the 84 but I suppose I can always find a different hatch.

If the guy with the black 86 would just be a bit more cooperative I might have gone that route, but he wont return my phone calls.

ohh and I can paint the bumper back to black ;)

'84 cars are the most unique, I'd say.

You have the 85+ front bumper, but the '83 style hatch, the interior pattern is stictly unique to '84, and '84 auto cars come with low compression 5MGEs, '84 manuals have the high compression engines.

lol, interesting stuff

red mk2s make baby jebus cry.

The motor in the red car is year unknown, but was 5spd motor. It was a JDM replacement several years ago. I dislike the big ass wing on the 83/84 hatch. I find it a bit too much.

As for colors, if I had my pick of them I would put dark blue metalic on top followed by white, black and then red. The problem is I dislike blue interiors and I DETEST red/burgundy inside. black/grey or grey/gey are far preferred over any other choice. I also love the feel of leather but it wears too badly and isnt the best choice in summer. So, finding a decent interior tend to lead me to cloth.

The Black 86 is missing several peices including the lower dash, a passenger mirror and some of the trim. It also has no stereo whatsoever and neds body and paint. The red cars paint is good enough that I would feel I need to repaint it anytime soon. The interior while dirty is ALL there and in my prefered color. It also comes with a decent stereo 6mo old tires and is not missing pieces.

If I had more time to look or more money to spend I might make a different choice. Buying this car, converting it to 5spd, detailing it and driving it for the summer by no means requires me to keep it. If it turns out to be the wrong car for me, Im sure I can sell it for what I will have into it. You of all people should know that there are other mk2's out there. Being at the right place at the right time is half the battle of finding one.

I basically have until the end of today to make up my mind but Ive made arrangements to get the red one tomorrow if nothing jumps out and bites me.

We need to keep you in the 3E5 group (We'd have to grandfather you in on the technicality that the car IS Red). Red is not my favorite either, but sometimes we have to settle for the best we can find when in need.

Absolutely Scott, and like I said, if I had a bigger budget...but I have to make due. Remember, last week I was happily driving around my near flawless Jeep Cherokee and really had no complaints. At least Im making the move back to sports cars, a move I hope isnt another mistake *coughLucycough*. If Im not happy I will just have to make another one of these threads again in a few months, lol.

Sorry, my complaint right now is that I see these red 85s almost CONSTANTLY^ on craigslist, and many peeps have been buying them up and joining cs.com and it's making me feel kinda illl, like the red car is the only mk2 color left

o_O

I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you do get :)

I hear ya Tanya, but the way I look at it I'm not some kid whos gonna go all "sup boyz! ckeck out mah DORIFTO wheelz em kay two" on it. I'll do what I did with my RA21, and my MA70. I will join the community, learn what I can, contribute as an adult, and hopefully give something back to both the car and the community. Not a single car Ive owned since high school has left my hands in worse condition than when I got it (except for a 78 Z28 that I essentially stole from a car dealership and hid for years in the mojave desert :naughty:). So no matter what car I buy will get love and attention until I no longer have use for it, then I will attempt to pass it on to the next person I hope will enjoy it as much as I do.

A year and a half ago when I sold the Celica I had for 14 years, the car that I had through my whole marriage while my wife drove the nice one, only to walk out and leave me with virtually nothing, I decided I was going to do what I loved. That love is working on cars. I sold my perfectly good jeep because I had no particular love for it. I was settling for "just some transportation". Now Im looking to turn that around, if not with this next car maybe the one after it.

All that being said, I still need the car to be a DD for me right now, so Im looking for the best possible starting point within the budget I have. If I had double the budget that black one with the louvers would probably already be in my driveway.

Shit, I have had kind of an emotional week this week for a ton of reasons, none of which are over a car. So Im gonna just take the plunge and get this over with so I can move on to more important things. In the end its a crappy $1500 car and far from the most important decision of the day.

Thanks again for helping me talk this out, hehe

/thread ;)

But, I want pics ASAP!! Good luck taking delivery!

And....I disagree with your negative thinking going in. Be glad you are finding a good MKII for a decent price, don't be pre-planning it's demise. It's what you have wanted for a good while. May it have a long pleasureable life.
