Engine wiring help

Today i finished putting in my 7mgte in my supra. I bought it from a guy who had the whole engine out. When i was putting it in there was alot of cut wires, i have found and repair all of them except for one brown wire that comes out of the harness just below the throttle body does anybody know where this goes. thanx

if its brown with black spots on it, its probably a ground.

if you have a multimeter and can test for continuity or resistance, check that brown wire against the other grounds which bolt to the intake manifold to verify.

Its brown but no black spots it comes out of the harness where the trans and vsv wires are and i dont have a muitimeter.

hm...maybe its the starter wire...you are going to need that plugged in....

both knock sensors are hooked up and the starter is hooked up. i have turned it over so im just not sure. Should i hook it to the intake mani and try it?

i wouldnt suggest doing any electronic diagnosis without a multimeter. im sure you can rent one from autozone or advanced auto.... or whatever local auto part supplier near you.

i had the same problem...its a ground that goes on the bottom of the int mani on those little tabs above the starter. should go next to a white dotted ground as well...

its only a ground if it has black spots or bands on it. a solid brown isnt a ground.

its quite possibly the starter solenoid wire.

knock sensor wires have clear insulation. you can see the copper strands inside the wire. its kinda cool.

I have the solienoid wires already grounded to the mani ther hard to see in the pic ill try to get a better pic tomorrow. The first pic is of the brown wire.

Wow. That same wire is cut and hanging out on my supra also. Mine isn't on the road yet but it turns over and does run. I have both grounds hooked up to the intake manifold and it's definately not starter related. So i'm in the same boat as you and if anyone can give any useful information I think we could both benefit from it. I think on my harness there is an identical wire thats also cut and hanging a few inches in front of that one further down the harness. Same color as that one also. I was stumped.

I have started and ran mine and it runs fine expect for the fact i havent got my timing set just yet i was kinda hoping to finish the electrical first so i dont have to keep on taking it apart. today im going to look at some diagrams and try to find it by process of elimination.

mine too! i have a thread "brown mystery wire" right now...somebody mentioned the possibilty of a coilpack ground...seems to be fitting in my case, is yours missing?

idk, that actually DOES look like a knock sensor wire.

is that brown jacket Loose-fitting with a silver-filament shelding between the jacket and a center wire? if so, does this center wire have a whitish/clearish insulation with a 14ga fine-stranded core?

they are knock sensor wires on mine a previous owner had rewired them so these were just dead. so i taped them off and ran the engine no codes. thanks for all the help.

both my knock sensors have grey wires but they look to have been added at some point...that brown one is silver stranded with the clear and another strand (shielded)... there is supposed to be a grnd on the coilpack bracket though right?

the ground on my coil pack is bolted to the head where the piping goes to the bvsv. its a differnt gage

So there are knock sensor wires? The knock sensors are the 2 sensors that go directly into the block on the drivers side right? I have both of those in and wired up but I still have the loose brown wires. My car starts up fine and I timed it and everything. Still not sure what those brown wires are.
