Engine Rebuild shops in So Cal

I am not going to recommend any particular shop, but from my experience with having my 7mge just recently rebuilt I will recommend you do the following steps in order to get what you pay for.
1. Get everything in writing before you exchange any money
2. Use a credit card just in case
3. Make sure the shop is financially stable
4. DO Not Pay up front, if they ask for this run, this usually means they need your money to pay current bills, and if there's trouble on your engine, they may not have the funds to fix it later on down the road.
5. Make sure ALL hoses, especially the hard to get to ones are replaced with new Toyota Hoses, and new Toyota constant tension clamps.
6. Make sure any aluminum parts that show any signs of corrosion are replaced or repaired, this will prevent coolant leaks on your fresh engine rebuild.
7. Make sure any metal tubes where hoses connect are either replaced or repaired, again this will prevent coolant leaks.
8. Make sure on paperwork states they will warranty things like oil leaks, I would request on the valve cover bolts they use loctite., request on all exhaust they use anti-seize. Little things like this need to be done; most shops won’t do them unless it's requested.
9. Make sure they understand they need to stay in contact with you during the build, so you don't have to hound them
10. Gather Up on Supramania all the things you want done to the engine, write them down, things like ARP studs, MHG, etc etc.
11. Make sure you have your head completely rebuilt, I have a feeling my valves weren't adjusted, just reassembled as they were when the engine blew
12. It's a good time to have your rack rebuilt or replaced, make sure the reservoir and all lines are cleaned first, so crap isn't pumped into your fresh rack.
13. Make sure you get a new cap, rotor, and spark plug wires, it’s an engine rebuild

Thanks for all this info dude. I got a couple questions for you what shop did u go to just so I can completey avoid it, how much did your rebuild cost, I'm also looking to get some other parts installed into it like the arp bolts and I want to get the 7mgte oil pump installed, and is putting a mhg in recommended if so what kind
It doesn't matter what shop you use. In my case I take full responsibilty for not following my own needs and requesting what I should have. Instead I let the reputation I found here on supramania blurr my common sense LOL
So with that being said even if you used the same shop as I did with the tips I posted you'll be fine, they do great work, I just should have been more attentive to MY needs and got them in writing before money exchanged hands.
As far as shops, there are some sponsered shops here in the forums, research them well being deciding on a shop.
