LOL Patience GrassHopper ;)

Pepboys might have a block test kit in stock.. or another big chain.
I had to drive it to an underground garage tonight because a hail storm came through and I didn't want any damage. However it made me want the car so much more. It's a love hate relationship ;)

Thanks for everyone's help so far its greatly appreciated. This will he my first big fix on a car with trouble shooting (my old Porsche 914 doesn't count) so I'm a excited/nervous. The only good news is that I've saves enough money to hopefully not have to worry about it just yet.

As for the compression testing kit, I'm going to call around tomorrow and try and get one

Alright, so its been a little bit but I do have some news. Haven't done a compression test as I still haven't had access to any tools. However when I shit the car off it started to smoke from the thermostat area, close to the head it looked like.

Here is a video of it smoking

Also, would parking up hill make my coolant in the bottle go back down to low? Here is what it looks like on the inside for those who asked

Ahhh this makes sense. I'm still a noob about the coolant system

you'll learn...im still learning
BTW...the water neck is held on with 1 bolt and 2 nuts...i believe to be 12mm
let engine cool down, clean area around water neck, let it warm up and see if you can see the leak
depending on what year your engine is the turbo coolant feed off the water neck will either be a banjo or fitting with a 90 degree elbow

good luck

The thing is with a 7M you don't get a second chance with cooling issues, if you don't sort it you'll be looking at a 2K rebuild if you continue to drive it. :nono:

She's been parked since I got to St. louis, I moved it for a storm but that's it. I really hope this gasket thing works.

I have no idea how to get to it so I will have to look into it. It looks like there are a ton of sensors and what not in the way

meaning when the air around ECT sensor is hot and showing your engine as overheating

i can justify to this actually on my old 87
first off i had a BHG and knew about it(blowing exhaust into cooling system)...small leak though
on a hot day after letting the car warm up about 2 minutes i would leave for work....2 miles down the road was a 15% grade uphill
right at the tippy top of the hill my autometer coolant temp gauge would show 220-240
this would happen for the next 5 miles of highway driving til finally the air bubbles worked their way out and coolant was now surrounding temp sensor

Alright so I dugaround in the engine bay a little bit and found the smoke is coming from underneath the CPS, I'm stumped at this point because there is no smoke lower than the exhaust manifold. I need to see how to get to the waterneck gasket because there is residue like something was leaking in there. Here is what it looked like after I cleaned it up, the smoke is coming from this area
