so if you go and get the MSI system and then buy the MS-II add on, then it will basically be up to the same standards as the best standalone systems out there? i have read quite a bit on it. its looks like a great setup and its upgradable too which is what i really like about it. i heard theres not too many guys running this setup and i have no idea why. i am deff planning on going this route once i get the chance to rebuild my motor and put all my stuff on it.

rival best EMS out there?? not even close.

Don't get me wrong the Megasquirt is great for the price point and what it can do. But to expect telemetry, fuel cut during gear changes, data capture to either Micro-SD, Sony Memory stick etc and any of those advanced features found on the high end EMS (Bosch, EFI Tech, Pectal, Magnetti Marelli etc) is short of silly.

is it in comparison with the AEM, Wolf, ect...? i know its not going to be comparable to the high end products that are going to cost thousands of dollars. but, by using a standalone system such as the MS instead of a piggyback brings lots of more tunability correct? i myself am looking for something to get away from the stock ECU and not cost me $$$$. i only wish i had the money for a top of the line setup. for a daily driven street car i would only be fooling myself putting that much money into one. so you feel for the price it is a fairly good standalone system to get away from a piggyback system?

no those are pretty high end and now the wolf is up there too.

the Megasquirt is the "entry" level ECM's. It gets you introduced into the standalone world. It does allow for using diff sensors (something that Bigstuff, FAST and Tec3 do not allow).

I'm running MSII with 720's. With a 4 bar map, harness, and EDIS (for ign) it was under $600. It is way better than the piggy back route and you can datalog everything (I've logged 40 minutes drives) and tune it off that instead of spending money at the dyno. Super convenient. You punch in the basics and it will give a map that you can drive the car with, tunning is cake. There is a steep learning curve with it but there alot of info out there and support. There are better systems out there but for the money MS is pretty good.
