Update!

I got the car running again, changed the oil, hunted down my coolant leak, flushed the tranny with MT-90, and drove it back up to St. Cloud with the new Tanabe Exhaust. The exhaust is a little crooked, haven't had time to tweak it yet, and my fan shroud still needs to be installed. There are a few more things that need doing, and hopefully I'll be getting a new intercooler some time in the next month or so.

Again, no pics, I'll have more soon now that the car is back up in St. Cloud.

Let me know when you want to tweak the exhaust as my Supra goes in for her roll cage on Wednesday evening. The hoist should be pretty much free next week. BTW, thanks ofr posting those photos of my Supra on MN Sport Compacts. It isn't a big surprize that the Honda won, as it seems there are 75% Honda guys on that forum.

You should re-enter your car for May COTM - it's RWD only. Just post up those nicer pictures and pray a Honda S2000 doesn't enter, and you should have a good chance.

Don't feel to bad my exhaust is also a little crooked. On mine the problem is the flange on the downpipe is off a very little. :(

Also where was the coolant leak?

I think my exhaust could be straightened out, it needs a little fiddling. I need to get it on to Dan's lift to try to figure it out first, and also need to get the cat installed to replace the downpipe. The girlfriend doesn't like the rotten egg exhaust smell. :icon_razz

The coolant leak was at the Thermostat gasket - I got a new one from Toyota and problem solved.

Time for an actual picture update!!!

On my way down to the cities on Friday, going 75 mph, there was a sudden *snap* as some black thing hit my windshield from what seemed like out of nowhere. I pulled over to check it out and my badge from the front of my car was gone. :: angry ::

I spent a bunch of time yesterday cleaning the car, which hasn't been done very thoroughly in WAY too long, and I realized I'm not very skilled at detailing cars. That or all my cleaning supplies are old and crappy. Regardless, the car is looking nicer than it was, even with the missing badge. While cleaning, I snapped some pics of the new Tanabe Exhaust.

I also took some pics of the rust spots on the car, that have been slowly growing. I'll get to them soon enough....

Lastly, I brought out a set of wheels that I've had sitting around for some time now. Since I'm sure that I won't be able to afford some new wheels like I want for awhile, I'm thinking I might just refinish these and throw them on. The paint is in AWFUL shape, but there is only minimal curb damage.

Emilio, talk to Sean regaring best time to put on the lift. Since he got his car running, it has been pretty full. It sounds like you issue won't take long to tweak.
Wish I could help you on the Supra badge. With as many cars being parted out, you should be able to find one cheap.
As soon as my car is back from the shop, I am going to put interior back together but not before adding the insulation I bought for the tunnel. Hoping your not too busy some eveing. I know you love tweaking interiors.
Your car looks good. Damn rust!

I cant wait to hear the new exhaust. If any thing a rattle can of white and masking tape to paint the rust area's will help not make them not stick out as much. Wont match, but will match better the rust ;)

Sean said any weekend works fine - we're putting swaybars on my dad's '68 Beetle, the swing-arm suspension REALLY benefits from them. I actually did find a badge too - we found one in the garage. I'm ordering a brand-new Toyota clip for it first though, I don't want to loose this one.

The new exhaust sounds great, and I really want to get the cat on there too, it should sound even more mellow, as well as smell better. The spraycan isn't a half-bad idea. I might do that on the rear 1/4 panel, since it's going to be a while before I can actually fix it. The door though is staying ugly so it motivates me to fix it properly.

I did notice something about this car though driving it this spring. IT STILL BURNS OIL!!! It's only a bit, say I put it in 3rd and let the engine do the braking down a hill, pulling a lot of vacuum. Once I reach the bottom, if I hit the gas, a small "puff" of blue comes out. It's nothing bad, and not at all like before, but it's still there.

Maybe it is your new engine builder ;)

Toyota of Japan? This is Dan's old JDM block, it hasn't been rebuilt or torn down at any point in its life - but it being slightly tired is a certain possibility.

Yeah, Sean and I replaced the stem seals last fall - but that's a certain possibility. I wouldn't put much faith any engine work I've done. :icon_surp

Is there a definitive way to test the valve stem seals apart from just pulling them out?

No real tests other than throttle off down a big hill and if it smokes when you open the throttle again 99% of the time it's stem seals.

Grab a Viton set and make sure you use the Condom when fitting so the valve tip doesn't slice the Lip off.

WELLLLLLLL I got another update. Car has been running and driving just fine, and after the meet I figured it was time to spice things up some more! Steve and I (mostly Steve) - mounted and installed my new intercooler kit as well as the corresponding oil cooler relocation and the HKS blowoff valve. The recirculation kit for the BOV hasn't arrived in the mail yet, so for now it's venting to the atmosphere, but I haven't had many (or any, for that matter) stalling issues. I also need to put aside some time and money to re-do my red door and take care of some rust.

Steve and I also switched radiators, which let me get in my fan shroud, as well as shuffle the aux. fans so they don't eat each other up.

Oil Cooler Bracket - a re-used 3000 pipe bracket!

I might have to hit you up for the recirc fitting next time I'm in St. Cloud. :icon_bigg

I'm glad the car is running and I'm going to hopefully finish the little things now, like ABS, A/C, Cruise, and the f*&%ing power window switch that broke on me.

Well I guess a small pic-less update today. I replaced the little rubber hatch stoppers and mostly did away with my hatch rattle. I also went under the car and discovered my diff bolts were loose on me again. I pulled out the torque wrench, set it to 122 ft-lbs. (as per TSRM), and tightened the suckers down. The car shifts way smoother and doesn't seem to clonk around like it was, but there is a lot more to do to make it really "nice".

My '96 Accord DD has also decided to start being needy, and since reliability is more important than fun, it's been getting some attention. O2 sensor, valve cover gasket, and a new radiator are all needed. :(
