Just a note worth mentioning regarding the latch itself, on 86-87 cars you need to hold the outside handle up to lock the door, 88+ you do not. If you are changing the whole latch, I'd want to make sure it at least matches the other side on the car.

on my 91 i have to hold the handle up to lock the door. :dunno:

i do have lexus lock cylinders though so maybe that has something to do with it.

Someone probably swapped your latches at some point, or even the whole doors.

Toyota stopped the handle-holding thing across their entire lineup in 1988 (in North America).

In Japan they kept doing it until later (not sure exactly when).

had the idiot locks on my truck, saved me from locking my keys in there many times... (release the door handle at the last second at it would close the door, but unlock)
