I already install an auto meter pyrometer, but I don’t know the safe EGT temp reading.

Yesterday a make a trip to Los Angeles and I was driving for around 3 hours, my EGT gauge was around 1,300 to 1,385 F, at 3200 rpm, (100 to 115 Mph).

A/F: 14.5 to 15.8
Close loop condition
Water temp: 185 C
Oil Temp 190 C

I don’t know if is normal, so before run under boost, I’ll like to know the safe EGT conditions.

I install the probe in the last runner of the exhaust manifold.

Can anyone help me:

EGT conditions:
Norma driving:?????? F
Freeway driving: 90 to 110 mph ??????F
Under boost 14psi with stock C26 : ?????F

Thanks you all!

Yep, you want to have the EGT probe pre-turbo where you can get an average reading. Got mine on the bottom of the turbine housing, just past the flange.

I have not done a 110 MPH run lately, but at 85 w/ 14.6-14.8 AFR with basically the same mods, I get about 680 deg C (1250 deg F).
In city type driving, it runs around 550-600 deg C (1020-1110 deg F).
Under full boost (18 psi), it will peak at 760 deg C (1400 deg F)...AFR goes to 10.5 though, kinda rich.

What do you have your timing set at?

What gearing have you got to be doing 110mph at 3200??? My car is pulling about 4300 at 110.

ditto. good info, my autometer gauge only goes to 1600. ive only ever seen it it ~1550 and its in the #6 runner about 1.5in off the exhaust port. now when the nw turbo goes in im putting it in the rear collector. thought about putting it in the turbine housing itself, but the spot on the collector i picked will be a cleaner install.

line that out for me? I thought recirc of 1300 degree air into the #6 cyl and compress into a fresh charge would raise the temps above what they would be if not recirc'ing 1300 degree air and putting only low temp fresh air in.

help me out.

you're missing the point of EGR.

the intent of EGR is to dilute the intake charge....i.e. make there be LESS combustible material...less combustion = smaller boom = lower EGT.

yup, its inert exhaust gas (no oxygen cause its burned)... 5 to 15% put back into the intake system used to lower the explosion temp to reduce NOx
