They don't make the "good" race series bearings for 7M's :(

ACL are local to me and in the past I've used their "normal cast pistons" for Turbo builds even going as far as machining a dish in the crown to drop compression. (I did this after discussing it face to face with their engineers and them saying it's probably NOT the best idea ;) )

Aw that sucks about the race bearings.Im not really sure of the difference between non race and race anyways, the shop i bought them from said they had some special coating.

LOL always breaking the rules huh IJ?

So I guess my plan tonight is to tear down my other block. I have two complete supra motors. Take the better of the two and send it to the machine shop. If this guy sounds legit when I talk to him today I just might go for it. But as always the more ppl that chime in the better.

really? how they been holding up?
So far soo good, can't complain. You know casting methods have only improved since the OEM pistons were made, and casting is not only cheap to do now, but it is virtually identical from each manufacturer.
I am planning on 400 rwhp on these pistons, and it is possible to make it, as there is a local doing 400 daily on a set of these ;)

For the price they arnt that bad I just did a full engine rebuild in December with the npr pistons with the coating one em. I bought the full rebuild kit that include the pistons, rings, aisin oil pump, water pump, timing belt kit, full engine gasket set, acl bearings and thrust washers for only $300 dllrs for the whole kit. So far so good im at about 350 rwhp and im shootin for 450 rwhp on this engine.Ooohh and by the way ACL bearings ARE NOT CHEAP they are a reputable company just like clevites...just my .02 cents good luck with your decision ...

I don't know for sure where these came from, But they have less than 500 miles on them. Three of them had cracks or broken like this. I just got car and didn't touch any settings or drive hard. It always smoked and had one cylinder low on compression. the other pic is of a stock piston with and "cheap"piston.

sweet, looks like i made a good choice on the pistons. any more people that have been using these? so far they look like they'll handle a decent amount of power.

Since iam going overbore. Do you gain anything on these motors by stepping up sizes to gain displacement. Or is it not worth thining the walls.

Only bore if ABSOLUTELY NEEDED.

The ACL pistons are stock-replacement cast pistons, and should be treated as stock cast pistons.

The cranks in that pic above are caused by incorrect ring clearances ;)

Yeap. Ive also see broken ringlands on motors that idiots ran nitrous on and probably ran it lean.

Wow, Thats good to know! I thought that it was to much boost and not enough fuel? So I don't need expensive forged pistons? just the right ring gap? You can see in the cylinder that the bottom of the stroke where the rings expanded. Wouldn't it expand and scrape along the whole bore?

Yes running lean can do that too.
Not necessarily, the bore eventually gets funnel shaped after its been run a while. The ring ends will touch close to the bottom of the cylinder which expands them into the wall.
Cast pistons can handle a lot of hp, given your motor has a good safe tune. Its all in the tune.

How so Dow?

Either ring-end gap, or ring to ring wall clearance.

Looks exactly like my 2.8 piston did, when I ran lean (13.2:1 afr) @ 10psi from a T61. Rings swelled up, and cracked the piston nicely.
