Installing a heavy duty harness isn't that big of a deal. The only connections you have to make are to the positive terminal of the battery and grounding to the chassis. The hardest part to me was routing the wiring to protect and conceal it. I ordered my harness from suvlights.com a while back and haven't had any problems with it.

With the Hella E-codes, how high of a bulb wattage can we go without worrying about stock harness burning etc. I think stock is 60/55W? could we go 100/55W for example with stock harness?

I recomend just the 60/55 going to 100 watts wasnt a lot brighter for me on the two cars I tried it on (supra and BMW) and both bulbs burned out quicker then normal.

buy the e-codes and jump in the GB for the HID's. If i have enough after tomorrow, i just might jump in if i can budget just right.

XtraVision is like two steps lower on the food chain than SilverStars according to the Sylvania website, and they out to know, since they make 'em.

regardless, it's a sub-par DOT housings that simply glares and doesn't use the light in a well controlled and useful matter

E-code are far more advanced and made for better lighting, less glare, and where the step right before projectors...

This looks very good, I think I'll go with this set. The next question is, where can I go to get the wireing harness with H6054 plugs going into H4 bulbs?

You need the H4 ground switch type electrical system harness I believe. On my old Celica, I didn't need the ground switch option, but my Supra required it. E-mail suvlights and they will confirm which is the correct harness for you.

Hi all,

After reading everyone's response on the subject, I ordered a pair of E-spec Hella 200mm reflectors, a hair of Philips X-Treme Power H4 and a wireing harness with fuse.

I connected everything (except for the ground wire which sort of just dangles around without a metal contact) and then when I tried to turn on the headlights, nothing happens! I checked each lightbulb by directly plugging them into the OEM plug and both bulbs work perfectly.

My question is, did I have too strong of a fuse and it is preventing electricity from actually reaching the lightbulb when I'm using the harness?

Now Supra's original sealed beam is only 35W and the new H4 are 55/65W. The Fuse on the wireing harness reads 12V 30A.

For those who knows their EE, is the reason why my light wouldn't turn on caused by:
1) ground wire not connected to a metal surface?
2) the fuse is of the wrong spec/type?

Also, what kind of damage will I cause to my OEM wireing harness if I plug the H4 directly into the OEM socket? Essentially I'm plugging in 55/65W into a harness design to take only 35W bulbs. Do I need to worry it will generate too much heat and burn out the wires?

The ground is there for a reason...

It completes your circuit if I'm reading this right. Without it you have no flow, just a bunch of voltage.

Ps. I'm not aware of any kind of fuse which would prevent flow from being TOO strong. The fuse simply breaks when enough power is run to it.

What he said. \/ :naughty: Ground connects or no electron flow (Current) then no load to the circuit (lights). Fuse will let even the smallest Ampere and Volt through, just blows when to much power goes through it to protect the circuit.

I understand that the ground completes the circuit but is it still true if that ground is suppose to only attach to a metal part on the car?

stupid canadian parts stores. They don't carry silverstar in H4.


If you want it real cheap get the ebay ones I have them.

But E-codes use the light better like stated.
