so, after 7 months, i finally went and got tuned this past saturday. i have a
1 jz on stuck twins with the following mods
hks dwnpipe
3" piping
550 injectors
mkiv fuel pump
koyo aluminum radiator
boost controller
apexi safc

Here are the videos of some pulls











numbers were 270hp and 298ft torque on 17lbs of boost.

Sounds/looks like its pulling pretty strong! I don't know much about the 1JZ, but isn't 17psi a little out of the efficiency range for the stock twins? Or am I just stuck on the CT26's lack of breath :sarcasm:

17 is fine.



To the OP, as said in the other thread(not sure if you saw), those 550s are killing you I think. If you tuned them out enough to get that 11ish AFR, your timing is probably a little funky. You would have made more power on stock injectors. If you're planning on staying with stock twins for a while you might want to look into 440s instead. 550s are way more than you'd ever need with stock twins. 440s give you enough head room over stock injectors though.

I made 293 at 12-13 psi.

Dude. 550's are way too huge with what you have. If you're boosting a 17 PSI and AFR's are still dipping into 11's, you're way too rich. I'd hate to see it without the tuning.

I'm pretty sure that if I went and strapped down right now, I'd beat your numbers with ease, at only 13 PSI.

550s Are toooooo big for your set up, I made 310hp at 10 psi!! That was with an AEM ems though, Check your timing too & 17 psi is still safe in my opinion, I pushed them to 20 psi & made 422 hp, Again i have a AEM ems & that makes a huge difference.

Oh i just saw your vids...... You were doing 3rd gear pulls, I dyno mine in 4th gear, Anyone correct me if i'm wrong, Aren't we supposed to do pulls in 4th gear to match the 1to 1 gear ratio???

I've always dyno'd mine in third gear. The tuner says it's easier on the car. It's definately over quicker because fourth gear will wind out more. I made my 543 rwhp in third gear as well.

Uh Oh Jay, you may want to edit that post then. That's not your true HP because it wasn't a 1:1 ratio pull. ;)

I would hate to get kicked out, but I'd also rather not lie to them if I've did something wrong. I've always heard you'd dyno more in fourth gear. If this isn't true then I got some splainin to do to Duane and Miguel.

It won't matter once I get my 1.5jz done though. Ill have to be in the 2jz section anyways.

Chris, would I dyno more or less in third gear? Thanks

we tried to dyno my friends 1J in 3rd and 4th, his car definitely like 4th better

he made 340whp going up to redline in 3rd (mustang dyno)

in 4th, he hit speed cut at 6200 and made 377whp

but like its been said, those 550s are probably hurting you more than helping

You Don't dyno in 3rd gear for its multiplied, You have to dyno in 4th to get true results for 1:1 ratio.

Jay your numbers are off then if you made that much in 3rd, they will end up being lower....

For example if you made 200 hp in 4th and your 2nd gear had a ratio of 2:1 you would get the results of 400 hp.

Lol.. i thought people knew about doing dyno pulls on 4th gear in the MKIII, In the MKIV it's 5th gear!:aigo:
