driving with a code 52 - a stupid idea?

The only visual way to tell is if it's cracked.

And get ready for some labor on the rear one. The starter has to come off for sure. I took my upper intake manifold off to make it a little easier and it still took ~3 hours (be gentle with the cold start injector line if you do this, don't ask ;) ).

As far as gas mileage. With the KS being the only thing wrong I was getting ~18 MPG to/from work. Once fixed I now get ~21 MPG and ~25 highway (minus 3 or 4 with the AC running).

Rewired the KS sensors tonight, turned out awesome and no codes, yet....
Im pre-89 so no removing starter or upper intake manifold, took me probly 2 hours or so to properly strip, solder and tie new wires into harness to ecu.

What kind of voltage does the ECU send to the KS sensors anyways? I was trying to get a reading with my multimeter for kicks but didnt pick up on any. Does the motor have to be above 3k before it sends out voltage?

I've been driving around with it for about a month / 3000 miles

The rear knock sensor is cracked, I'm getting a replacement this Friday

Looking at the location I'm inclined to have a shop deal with it out of shear laziness, but they will take a look and charge some $$$ so i'll be doing it myself

any tips on getting at it without removal of the starter / intake?
Lots of extensions, and go from the front. Loosen the starter just enough to swing it out of the way. If you're good at working where you can't see, the entire process should only take about 30 minutes.

I replaced a rear sensor on not long ago- took me about 40 minutes total, including parking the car, grabbing and putting away all the tools, etc...

DISCONNECT THE BATTERY! Using all those extensions right near the alternator is risky- so eliminate the risk! ;)

You need an oscilloscope to check knock sensors.

Well, I replaced my rear KS and boom, no more code 52! Shaeff, your harness works perfectly - no problem there. I checked the KS that I removed and it was definitely damaged - the plastic male connector housing was slightly bent to one side - it most likely happened when I replaced the starter.

Great! :) The KS's are getting fragile in their old age. :(

is there a guide for the rewiring of the KS Harness? I have an 86.5 and replacing the KS didn't work so i'm deffinantly thinking the rewiring needs to be done

Does anyone want to trade their supra for a beautiful white one with a built automatic and a brand new rebuilt motor? All it has is just a little biddy old code 52 and it still probably makes 280rwhp.
