Driving then car goes dead...

So it seems like my issue has come back or I never really corrected it initially. At first, I thought my issue was bad ignition lock connectors as posted here. Now, it has come out in its true form.

Today driving back from lunch, the car dies while mildly cruising at ~40 mph. EBC, TT, lights, radio, AC are still on but noticed no power to the AFC. Luckily, no cars behind me so I was able to pull over and with my co-worker push the car to an empty parking lot.

Seems like a good 5 mins of me turning the key but no CEL or AFC power on. The car cranks but does not turn over not until the mentioned turn on. This is the first time this has happened while driving...before I thought it was limited to just starting up.

when you turn the key to ''on'' does the RPM Gauge move???? i would look at the cold start sensor and the cps wiring if not any of those two things maybe it's your o2 sensor ....nobody kill me im just saying i would look ther first ....moving theses wires around on my car gets it to start

I dont think its the cold start because he was already driving when this happened which meant that his car started up fine and should've been warm already.

I would check your wiring with the afc to the ecu first. regardless of engine start..no start..whatever..it should still stay turned on and you might've messed up connecting it to one of the ecu wires preventing it to start.

do that then get back to us.

^Mind you, it's been 3 years since my AFC was connected and all has been working fine up until the past few months. But I will check again to be sure.

Neg...it's been working fine for the 3 years after the installation until mid summer last year when it was thought to be ignition-related. At that time, the only thing I installed was the intercooler and hardpipes...nothing else electronic.

did you ever check codes?? could a code 11 cause this??
my buddy is looking at a 94 yoda p/u today that has(apparently) the exact same problem, dont all early toyotas have similar ecu/diagonosis setup???

I haven't checked for any codes yet....I'll be taking it to some fellow Sup owners, so we'll see from there.

Well, had some buddies look at the wiring and all is solid (thanks guys). Even tried messing with the connections while the car was at the ON position....CEL or AFC did not go dead. I guess that rules out the AFC. No codes at the moment.


Any other suggestions? Weather-induced perhaps? Fuses?

Check your CPS and connections, I know when I was NA it'd crank forever and not start, scraped the contacts on the distributor and she fired up the 1st time after..

check your o2 sensor if you havent already, that happened to a few people i knew they were driving then it just shut off...

nope, but you never know..

if it were the 02 sensor, it'd fire up and immediately die if the engine were running incredibly rich, I believe..

The first step should always be to check the codes. If you're driving along the interstate at 85mph, and your motor drops out under the car and rolls through 6 lanes of busy traffic at rush hour, check your codes!
