True, however I want my car to run at the track EXACTLY how it runs on the street. Interior is staying the same, and tires are staying the same. Slicks and skinnies are not an option for me on the street, as it may lead to bad things. The only thing that may change is the gas in the tank (and that will be far far down the road).

Why don't you guys just run a good set of slicks then? Duane and others have run many 1.6 times with 26"slicks.... They're better for our 5spd cars anyways.... you guys wanna run these huge drag radials when a smaller slick will be better.... I run the MT 275/50/15 still as shown in the first post, but as soon as these are gone this year I'll be getting some slicks.. Oh yeah these do rub a little bit even with rolled fenders...

My car is a street car, at least for now. It will probably only see a track about once or twice a year tops depending on how much more i mod it. If i hit my goal first time out theres really no point in the 300 mile trek to get another time slip. When i go to the track, the only thing that will change is maybe the air pressure in the tires.

Im going to run methanol injection so i can run my boost goal on pump fuel 93 octane. Its going to be able to run that boost level at any time i flip the switch, unless im out of methanol. Same tune, same everything. I dont believe in changing tires/fuel/boost just for the track. Whats the point of having a car that goes 10's all day at the track but cant pull on a mild Mustang/Camaro on the street?

Im not one for excuses. "Well im on low boost" "I dont have race gas right now" "Let me go get my slicks" Run what you brung or go home.

As far as im concerned a true street car works on the street just as good as on the track. Thats a true, impressive street car.

Also DR's are more corner friendly then slicks too.

I guess that's just the difference between you guys and me... I don't street race! Id rather just go to the track... My car is my daily driver and have a nice set of wheels and tires for everyday that I can 60' 1.9 with... If I race i go to the track... I'm not trying to corner on my big fat drag radials.... Have you guys ever taken a corner with some fat drs before? Its not fun at all!! I've blew one out before, not even taking a sharp turn fast...

My car is full interior ac everything and sound system... When I go to the track I just put on my wheels and tires go there, get some race gas turn up the boost and drive home! The safe way, I could care less about running some guy from a dig on the street! I'll make some hwy pulls but thats about it... some one wants to race I'll meet then at the track! I'll be ready for TX2K10 aswell!!

The real difference between you and i is you are most likely local to a track. Its a 3 hour trip minimum ONE WAY to the nearest track. 3 hours travel for a run is not worth it.

Corners shouldn't be an issue for DR's there still radial construction, just a large sidewall. Most Drag radials aren't wrinkle wall either. Big difference between DR's and slicks. Though im not trying to say theyll be as stable as a performance street tire. My BFG 255's on saw blades are way to wide for the wheel but handle pretty good.

Its not even because im looking to "street race", if i have a car capable of 500+HP i don't want to have to drive 3 hours to experience it because of traction. :naughty:

Your setup looks sick BTW, if you weren't so far i would offer to buy it from you. Shipping would probably make it more expensive then its worth though.

Anyone else Running big tires?

Hello everyone. I was wondering, with my 18's that are 7.5 inches wide how much wider of tires can I get? The tires I have right now are really weak, they break loose easier than the stock tires I had on.

Well 7.5 inch wide wheels are kind of hurting you, especially on 18's. When you have a 15 inch wheel the sidewalls are bigger and you can have some bulge to add width. On wheels that big its gonna be rough. Im sure theres a drag radial that will fit on that wheel though. Mickey Thompson doesnt make anything that will fit, but maybe Nitto or another brand does.

It won't be a "true street car" once you put meth in it now, would it. ;) and...My car is a 10 sec car on the street. ;) Mild Slowmaro, no problem. :biglaugh:

If it was a "true street car, again, you won't be running meth either. ;)

A DR is shitty for cornering, I run them on my car for daily use.

what? i know LI closed, but Etown is only like 1.5hr. even atco is less than 3hrs. there is an 1/8mi off I495 which is only bout 30min from LI. Lebanon is around 3hrs, i guess that's the one you are talking about.

Meth is for street cars. It's race fuel on demand without having to actually run race fuel. ;)

Then why do you have a 9 second street car? ;) And like I said I like to play alone most of the time anyway. I feel tires should be considered part of safety equipment. If you can keep the car pointed in the right direction the likely hood of losing controll is much lower. ;)

Again how is meth not for street cars? It's a perfect street solution! I didn't say DR's are good at cornering but there not bad like a wrinkle wall slick. ;)

DB: where are you on long island? I'm out there. E-town is where I would go. I've herd atco sometimes isn't prepped verywell. Last time I went with the SF crew it was an all day event for 3 runs. If I were to go again I would go with my buddies on a rental. It's still a hike for a few passes. Not to mention if I drive the car there and break, I'm completely screwed.

Edit: E-town is 107 miles, 1 hour and 57 minuites as per GPS. Add wait to get in, traffic, and bathroom break along the way. It's a hike for a couple passes.

I was being technical, since meth is generally not for a "true street car:. You are talking about a street car, they don't come with it. :D Changing out gas takes 15 mins, whoopee!

I go to the track and drive on the street too. I am not the one that is in question here. :icon_razz

Meth is generally not in a "street car". Just sayin...I bought a new car and it didn't come with a meth kit...WTF!?!

I don't believe street cars come with a turbo the size of yours either. ;) that 15 minuites is 15 minuites I won't have to spend with meth :) hehe

I don't believe I'm in question either. I'm just looking for a nice set of large sticky drag radials.

Did that new car you bought come with 1000+hp to the wheels and a motec standalone? ;)

I never said I'm not going to take it to the track, it's just not going every weekend, or every other weekend for that matter.

DB: Its just too much work to do all the time. If there were a track local i'd prolly be there all the time.
