Yea right after they came out I heard it was the fastest new car you could buy for under 20k. I like them just for the fact that its a 2.4 liter. Considering all the hondas and other "sport compacts" with their 2.0< engines I think that the SRT-4 actually deserves the title "sport compact". To me its kinda the leader of the FI fwds (ion redline, cobolt ss...and whatever else it coming out) IMO its a good little car and can be made fast for very little...but then again thats what "tuners" are all about right ;)

I wonder if any of you "haters" in here read the SCC article on the motor itself...its a marval of engineering on Chryslers part....It was made from the ground up as a high HP motor.

And of COURSE your supra beat one and spanked one.....you ran a STOCK one.....and if it was from a 0 kick....of COURSE you would beat it...FWD is NOT for drag racing...its the ugly duckling in drag racing...though we have ( with $$$) overcome some of the FWD shortcomings and quirks....

Its still one little impressive car...and the fit and finish of the Neon itself astounds me.....like i said, i HATED Chrysler before i started selling them....but when you look at the build quality, inherited from Daimler/Benz....its all there.

Like i said, go for a test drive...you will fall in love with the thing!

There are several SRT-4's in Louisville that are very respectable. Stock vs. Stock I bet the SRT-4 would beat the mkiii. From what I've seen on local forums and dragstrips, it takes very little to make them produce mad power. There is a guy here with one that has 491 fwhp and 530 fwtq. It runs 7.46 @ 97mph in the 1/8 and 11.75 @ 121.5mph in the 1/4. The SRT-4 is deffinately a car to consider IMO.

If I wanted a good turbo engine with under 3 liters of displacement, I'd get a 3S-GTE or 1JZ-GTE. At least with the cars that have those engines you get RWD or AWD. That, and you'll have a Toyota. ;)
Seriously, even though these new top model Neons are a completely different animal than the last generation of peeling-white-paint-couldn't-torque-my-head-down-if-it's-engine-were-a-torque-wrench Neons, I still can't get around the Neon stigma, the same way I wouldn't care if Honda suddenly released a turbo Civic with over 200whp.
Instead of buying a $20k-$35k car [this includes the SRT-4, EVO and STi] and voiding it's warranty by modifying it, I'd rather buy a cheap car with a good body and put a decent engine in it for much less. If you want modifications on a car, a new car and a warranty should be of little concern.

its a fucking neon engine with a turbo@12psi stock! its a POS, too much power on a FWD. The only decint 1 ive seen was a CF body with sum little mods, but even that was pathetic for how much it cost.

Suposly the best bang for the buck around and under 20g.

I like em, they look better than the average neon, its just like a TSI talon (being pretty quick and easy to mod minus AWD.) just doesnt break as much (SO FAR) since there fairly new and all.

230HP and 250 Torque.

not to impressive stock.. well there nice and all but not like DAMN, nor is a stock mk3 turbo tho either.

Because every time someone loses to a SRT4, the best comeback they can muster is, "At least I'm not driving a neon" or "Yeah, but Dodge has bad build quality". What do those arguements have to do with losing a race?

Ok, first up, they ARE fugly.

That aside, they are a TOUGH little car. One of the fellows here picked one up as his daily driver - now it's almost as fast as his drag car, and all he did was BPU + a big turbo. He switches to slicks at the track, and IIRC his times are sub 12 seconds now. He beats the hell out of it, and it just sucks it up - he hasn't broken a damn thing on it, and he's well over double the stock HP.

Now if they put that engine in a PT cruiser... ;)

....then what?
Then you would have a car that is only ugly on the interior. The exterior on the PT is nice enough, the engine / drivetrain is excellent... two out of three isn't bad. :D

I still wouldn't buy one, personally, but I know several people who would.

$20k = Neon SRT-4

OR, if you do your own maintenance & tuning..

$2500 89+ with bad engine
$3500 Aristo front clip
$1500 Greddy 3-row kit
$1500 Bellhousing, flywheel & bolts, engine mounting brackets & mounts
$1000 Oil pan hardware
$2500 AEM w/wideband & MAP
$3400 HPF PT67 turbocharger kit
$2000 BoostLogic full Fuel kit
$700 Custom 3.5" exhaust setup
$600 Bad-ass clutch

See where I'm coming from? I don't care how light a Neon is, or how great it's engine may be; most of the people on this forum love their car so much that they would rather drive their and be beaten by a "lesser stag" than to join their crowd.

..really?
Maybe I don't like them because my first impression of them was seeing a purple one with the license plate "BIGPAPA" or some such nonsense. All I could think was "Oh yeah.. THAT guy's straight". :icon_roll :greddy2:
