yea the staged ones can be a bit of a handful but if you are bpu you should be fine. from a dig the older ones are easy to beat unless they have a really good driver as there was no LSD to start out with (now comes w/ a quaife iirc) and w/ the small turbos that spool at idle (ok maybe little higher than idle ;) ) its hard to launch. take it to the highway and the problem becomes more evident as they run outta breath it seems near the 3/4 of each gear.

that said give it the proper "stages" and a driver w/ some experience and it could be a nice battle

edit: as for waht to look for iunno. i know the stage 1 or 2 is larger injectors, ecu remap, more boost and something else...... damn

plus side is that their exhaust is a problem. when we open up the exhaust on our cars we lose spool time and also gain a pound or 2 of boost. with the srt4 when they do exhaust the ecu reads it like out of control boosting and cuts back harshly to keep the boost from going much higher :)

its a fucking neon engine with a turbo@12psi stock! its a POS, too much power on a FWD. The only decint 1 ive seen was a CF body with sum little mods, but even that was pathetic for how much it cost.

Watch out for those things they can be made fast with little money. I have personally seen on with 3" exhaust, a few more pounds of boost and slicks do very low 13s. Last weekend a friend of mine dynoed his srt4 and made 440 whp and about 450 TQ!!!!!!!!!, with a t3/t4 and other minor mods. Later that day he made a 12.7 pass at about 120 and another that was a bit quicker but I dont know the number off hand, while spinning the tires past the 60' mark.

So many of you guys dissing and pissing on the SRT-4.....

About how many of you have actually DRIVEN one? I have...I hated them at first....but after a couple of "fun" rides...they are NOT to be taken lightly, and the quality is there as well!

The shifter is far superb to the se-r spec-v or RSX-S, and boosing 5lbs at 1500 rpms is very impressive as well.

much less they LOVE backroads.

I suggest you guys test drive one....then come back.

No kidding...lots of people hating here. For one, its not a stock Neon engine....or a Neon engine at all really IIRC. I agree it'd be better off RWD, but shit happens. They put it in a Neon body to compete with the 4 door fast car thing now...sorta to make it sleeperish in a way. You guys hate too much...really, lighten up!

I've seen one run low 14's @ 100.XX mph stock. I wouldn't buy one but it's the fastest late model for your money right now.

It sounds like there's some misinformation floating around about that engine. It's not a stock neon engine with a turbo bolted on, it's an entirely different block. It has piston cooling oil squirters, revised water jackets for improved cooling, additional oil galleys, a high volume oil pump, cracked cap forged rods, low compression pistons with a shorter skirt and a hard-anodized top ring land, a hardened crankshaft and inconel exhaust valves.

Daimler-Chrysler actually put some effort into making this a solid engine. We'll see how it ages but it looks like a good design.
