i run 5 quarts of oil. my normal oil change is like this:
4 quarts of 15w50 mobil 1
1 quart of lucas oil stabilizer

then around 1500 miles i add another full quart and at 3k redo the whole shebang. i noticed higher oil pressure also switching from thinner lighter oil to heavier oil and then again to full synth over a blend. no problems still and no smoke

Thats definantly good to hear!

I might try a synthetic in my next oil change...maybe the Valvoline 20W-50...or maybe even a 15W-40 synth.

I also got word from my buddy ( lexus IS300 5sp) about a oil additive called Militec....its actually a metal "conditioner" and not really and additive...it has not one benefit to the oil...but rather bonds to the metal to decrease heat and make the surfaces smoother....lots of military equipment and race cars use the stuff....My friends gradfather can get a discount...LOL

5.5-6 with castrol 20w50 dino-oil showing pressures just under what siman is showing, but I have a slightly bigger oil cooler which may account for some of that.

i had a friend tell me to always add 1 extra quart to keep from spinning a rod bering. how accurate is that?

they aren't getting it from anywhere....except their backsides...

too much oil in the sump will contact the crank and end up throwing a lot of oil around...most likely out of the PCV. in extreme cases you can blow seals, etc.

I looked in the back of my owners manual.....when i do an oil change, 2 changes per filter, I fill her up to 4.5 quarts.....

I was so confused at you guys saying 6 here and 6 there....I always topped off at 5. I just re-read the picture PDF from teh TSRM, wow its a dry fill...LOL

Squid, I also have bigger, better Goodyear Oil cooler lines...I took out the factory metal lines and put HUGE lines in there. That could account for loss of pressure as well. Hmmm.

to much oil is more pressure correct? thats how it can cause HG to blow.

not correct. no way you can generate MORE oil pressure. crankcase pressure, yes...but that won't be blowing your HG any time soon....

ok so its better to run little bit more than factory? sence our cars are getting old.
i cant remeber where i read this i know it was on this site but, cant our cars hold 10.5Qs in the oil pan?

ah gotcha....

you know i was swapping a jdm engine into someones car and i noticed a sandwhiched adaptor of some kind in between the filter and the mount...i pulled it off and it almost seemed like it was for an oil pressure and oil temp gauge....

i have it somewhere...ive been meaning to post pics to see if anyone could ID it...it seems pretty cool... jdm tyte ;)
