I know you took them off - they looked bad on a supra. On a subaru, though, they fit the bill. If you still have them, I'm interested.

Regarding the vid, it doesn't sound like RK, but remember that according to Jim, it has seized.

Here is an old e-mail:

"As to why the engine failed, you hit the nail on the head. This engine purred
until the event. I was on my way to Cape Cod, and steam started to flow from
the sides of the hood. I pulled into a filing station and let it cool down.
There was hardly any anto freeze on the ground. The mechanic sold me a gallon of
anti freeze, and we put it in. He thought there was a small hairline crack at
the top of the radiator. He said drive slow and go home. I got back on the
highway and drove 55 home. # miles from my home the temp guage went hot and I
was driving down the exit ramp and the engine just quiet, no sound, no noise. I
coasted to a curb and called the tow truck. My mechanic siad the engine
seized. I find it hard to understand, the engine temp guage was ok not hot , then it
suddenly went hot. Totally fooled me. I should have never got back on the
highway, and towed it right away.

The engine had run so well for all these years.
Half the time I could not hear the idle or feel it, it was so quiet and so
well balanced.

I replaced in the last two years, tires which are very good, the steering
rack was replaced last year with power steering pump, and high pressure hoses.
I put in a new catalitic converter about two or three years ago. The steering
damper was replaced two years ago. I had a new air conditioner condenser and
pump, all is new and very very cold, was recharged fully. I just three weeks
ago replaced the power window switch which was original. All lights work and
directionals. Will need a new power door lock switch, was never installed after
the engine quit."

Thats a hell of a story. Well idk man the motor seems fine. I changed the oil and put a new radiator in. I although i need a cold start injector it seems to run good, other than that ticking which to my knowledge is loose valve shims. And yea the locks dont work so i need to replace those. I actually drove her too. She seemed fine. :dunno:

Probably annealed.

Sorry but no amount of "positive words" will change the reality.

You keep stumbling from one disaster to the next with these cars and don't seem to want to learn at all.

You bought a rusty car with a damaged engine....

"You can't polish a turd"

Sorry if this comes across as harsh but it's hard to sit here and watch you throw $$$ away.

call me stooped....but

Cant it be heat treated again.....just like steel?

Anyway back to the point....drive the car....its running now so who gives poop.....just be east on the thing and buy another supra with no rust and a good motor....

Something inside my head is telling me that if the head got hot enough to soften then there would be bigger issues such as fire.

Ok you're stupid.....

Yes it can but to do it correctly costs as much as a brand new casting.

Do you know what temp Aluminium anneals at?

Damn dude yet again you're sticking your nose into issues you have NFI about.

Dreamz: Let me ask you this who would you rather listen to, someone that's been doing this for 30 years and only has your best interests in mind or someone that thought living in his car (being homeless) was a viable way to save money to build a Supra?

You're going to do exactly what you want in the end anyway so I think I'll just step away from this trainwreck and leave you to it.

I went through hell finding a "better" head. I had to buy my own hardness tester, and then check 1 head at a time. I ended up finding a head off a cressida that wasn't too bad. But, not perfect and at that time i just didn't care.

Best of luck. :(

So i live in a supra, can i use gasoline to power a stove? ;)

Maybe I should reword my questions in a manor that is clear to you....

Im not as dumb as you may think I am I know a alot more about metals and how temps effect them then I think you give me credit for. I may fail at life in general but I didn't get a position at EF Percision Group Inc cause I'm an idiot...google it..

Look up combustion temps.....

Run an aluminium head without coolant and you have seconds before it anneals (752f) starting at the Chamber and working out along the exhaust ports.

Learn to spell it and I might google it... :nono:

I'm not flamming/hating or being an ass, post good information and you won't hear a word from me.

This kid is in serious trouble again and suggesting that he runs the car into the ground isn't helping his situation.

dude, you just need to take more time finding the RIGHT one. Its ok for it to have problems, they just need to be within the realm of fixability for your skill level (or you need the budget to have someone else fix it). Secondly you need to not buy based on your heart but on your what your brain and eyes are telling you.

For the average buyer: Rust through = NO, Engine fire = NO, siezed engine = Not unless you plan to replace it.

No one here wants to crush your dreams, we are just hoping to steer you into the realm of reality.

Take my latest car for example. It didnt run quite right, had no power, made scary noises from the transmission and looked like it had been wired by a 6 year old with a grab bag of wire nuts and electrical tape. BUT...it was rust FREE, I knew exactly what was wrong with the transmission, the interior was close to flawless and it drove straight and true. I have less money in my car than you paid for the last one and I would jump in mine and drive it to Florida tomorrow.

Of course I have some experience buying cars as Ive owned over 45 different ones in my life. You need to learn what to look for, what to steer well clear of and have realistic goals of what you can accomplish on your own. I started my latest build thread as a "help me find a car" thread. If you post up some cars, members here will be happy to look em over and give you honest opinions, or look in the for sale section for members rides. They might be a little more expensive than some supra you find on a street corner, but at least here you something of its history and THAT is worth something.
