I know this is going to sound wierd, but I need to know if I can somehow disable the stock twin turbo's. I am going to be driving 1200 miles north in about a year, and the route includes a lot of mountains. My turbo's smoke a little, and I am worried that the seals will blow out during the drive. If this isn't feasable, I will have to go single.

For those of you wondering, the drive is from San Diego to Portland, Oregon. About a 16 hour drive.

Thanks,
Adam

hah wow.

you can disable them.

the 1jz did come non turbo. you could get a non turbo exhaust manifold and go from there.

a better option would be to fix your problem the RIGHT way and not the less than half assed way.

I'd say it's time to go single. If you don't want to drop the money on that project, then I have a set of stock twins up for sale. They worked just fine when I took them off to go single. However there is one thing wrong with them. The front turbo needs a new inlet housing (you have on your car right now). It broke when I crashed my first Supra (no harm to turbo). I took the motor out, and went single turbo in another supra because I couldn't find just the front housing to buy. This will be much cheaper than going single turbo. But like I said... I think if you're going to go single turbo, now is a good time.

I just want to disable the turbos for the trip. I want to make them work again after the trip.

IJ, I'll pass on that whole self disabling thing. Especially if they decide to disable themselves while going up a mountain pass with no cell phone reception or help anywhere near.

The only way I can think of you possibly "disabling" your turbos is to disconnect your wastegates. Most of the exhaust gasses will pass right by your turbos. You might still get some boost out out of them but very little. However, I think you will run pretty rich in doing this (maybe). I'm not really sure of how your car will run as I have never done this. Other than that, I'm unsure of any other way to do what your looking to do (inexpensively).

Well, I lost a bet to my son about the "1J-GE" so with that being said, get the Drift Motion manifold f/ the CT26, and "go single"! That is going to be a great option for all the 1J guys,:boink: when the twins take a shit!:biglaugh: .57 trim CT, w/ a DDP:naughty: ...Sickness!!!

See arron at driftmotion go single

You can disable the turbo by putting a cone filter in the plenum intake and removing the pipeing then opening the wastegates so the dont boost and bypass exhaust.

The engine will still run but only be like 150hp lol
Also it will run fine because unlike the 7M-GTE it does not use a flow meter pre turbo also the map sensor runs inside the plenum along with the temp sensor i started my car and it ran fine with all the turbo plumbing off.

Call up Castle Hill Toyota, pickup a non-turbo 1JZGE exhaust manifold, block off the oil feed lines with two oil pan drain plug bolts, and block off the water lines with some rubber caps...

Good to go!
