-Read mkiiichip's link. Do what it says.
-Chances are, if you didn't fiddle with the linkage inside the transmission, it probably isn't the problem. If you fiddled with the linkage on the outside of the transmission (rebuild, pulled engine...yeah, you probably did) double check it.

Assuming you did those two things your transmission will be shifting just as well as before and also be filled up to the top.

Oil dipsticks are read when the car is off and has been off for a bit. Transmission dipsticks are read when the car is warmed up. Both on level ground.

Car has to be running and warmed up when you check the dipstick. You said earlier you were checking it when it's off (this could be your mistake perhaps?). Car has to be On/Running/idling when checked.....just to be clear ;)

If the pump failed, wouldn't you still be able to get it out of park? Or am i missing something here?

I read it that it just doesn't select gears not that it won't mechanically shift out of Park, a simple "test" would be for him to put the shifter in N and try and push the car forwards/backwards if it's NOT shifting it won't budge an inch...

FWIW when we swapped the 1JZ auto trans onto my 7M we filled the torque converter and intially i poured in about 5qts started the car let it warm up and cycled through the gears. When i checked the dipstick intially it said everything was in spec i obviously knew otherwise. After cycling through the gears and warming it up the dipstick was on the low mark. I added in two more qts to get it at the bottom on the full line. I drove it home and installed my trans cooler the next day. At the end of everything i put roughly 8-9qts in to get it where it was supposed to be.

Now if youre cycling through the gears making sure to stay in each gear a few seconds before changing to the next and nothing is happening. Let the car and transmission warm and like EVERYONE else in here has stated check the dipstick with the engine running and in park and on level surface. Chances are you either have too little. When we put the engine back into a friends car he didnt put enough ATF in the car and it wouldnt shift gears period. So you might want to look into that.

Also like IJ said the tq converter needs to be aligned 100%. It took a good 15min of playing around with it before we got mine to slide in all the way.

well mine was deff put in all the way. I have checked the dipstick after i had the car running for a while a couple times the fluid stayed the exact same everytime. Ill try it again for longer tommorow.

My car doesnt rev past around 3k either and idles rough right now so i dont even like keeping it on to long. :(

So i have had my car ruuning for like 10 min shifting through gears. Nothing happened.

Has anyone on here actually not filled one up, and did you have to pull it out again? Cause so far nothing has happened and im getting ready to pull it which sucks. I just got it running good.

Is the shifter linkage connected?

Negative on pulling it if it's linkage related, you can get to the internal linkage under the car by dropping the pan and the external linkage is easy to get at and adjust.

well it does move into nuetral.

Me and my buddy jacked up the back of the car and tested all the gears and how to wheels spin. It all good. It must be the TC.

And know my tach doest read anythin when its on. What is that about?

looks like im pulling it.
