Hey guys.

When I try and make the car start moving I get a horrific grinding sound from the back. If I slowly slowly let the clutch out the car will drive but if there is much load on the drivetrain it grinds to hell.

I have launched the car quite hard a few times.

I have included a video w/ sound so you can hear it.

With the car supported on jackstands with the jack as triple support, running in 1st gear everything is spinning. When I press the brake down the driveshaft keeps turning but neither rear axle(CV) turns and there is a huge grinding noise. To me this means something inside the diff is toast. I am open to any other suggestions.

The car is an imported JZA70, so is the diff the same as a USDM car? I can swear I remember an article with Dr. J getting an ebay or other name brand LSD that was made for the non-usdm cars and the axles were different lengths? I am going to do more searching for it but if anyone knows please enlighten me.

Thanks for your time guys.

Since you have a JZA70 your car comes from factory with a Torsen rear dif. These are known to not withstand the "shock" that hard launches place on the rear end. Some have launched there cars countless times and the dif holds up fine and it shatters on others. Either way the USDM LSD is superior when it comes to withstanding hard launches. Torsen for the track and LSD for the strip. Lets hope its only a pinion or ring gear.

Thanks for the input guys. Sound now working on a different host.

broken

It didnt come out as good as I was hoping but you can tell it sounds like crap.

I can back the car in and out of the driveway if I am really really easy on the clutch, but other than that it grinds away.

Ah I see, I did not know that. This car is NOT an R. I think it might be a "limited" having the targa. Will pull the diff in an hour or so.
