best way from my experience is to have the throttle body off and lay it down run the part that goes through the intake runners and pull it down and then go over the valve covers. Just take a look at all the clips on the sensors if the wire looks old bridal or like is only holding on by a thread then de pin it and solder new wire and pin. I would look at the 4 wires that go into the cps cam position sensor from the harness side my were fucked when I did my rebuild the other day and car would not start. Also check the coil packs on the harness side they get bridal too. It looks just the the cps clip 4 wire clip.

You said something that worried me.. lol.. and I didn't want to reread it all.

knock sensors are under the intake plenum (Driver side of the engine). 7MGTE has 2... 7MGE has only one.

This is a Turbo car getting a turbo engine correct? Not a NA car (7MGE) getting a turbo engine (7MGTE)? Just want to make sure... lol.

Hey can anyone tell me if I have the right idea for the layout here? holding in my hand the part I think would cross the timing belt cover
also, is part of the harness meant to go between the intake manifolds?

Yup 7mgte getting another 7mgte swapped in. What exactly is the intake plenum? Lol like what does it look like?

Guess I should have named it intake manifold so as not to confuse. The knock sensors are below the intake manifold on the driver side of the engine. (Opposite the exhaust)

so this is pretty much what i got done today ( only had an hour and a 15 minutes and had no clue what i was doing haha ). what basically comes nextt? i was also wondering if anyone could name the hoses that attach under the plenum.? its like the metal line in the middle that has rubber hoses running off of it and one gets bolted on the fuel rail. need those hoses because they were just falling apart unfortunately. hoping someone could help with the hose names by morning so i can place the order and get them quick. also both "90 degree" hoses are on the motor right? one at the end of th block and one up front right? thanks guys!

Since we were talking about harnesses earlier in this thread, I will ask my questions here.
I hung my harness by copying my 7mge that I have sitting on the ground. The harnesses are similar enough to copy the same basic layout.
I have a few questions.

In this picture you see the blue connector on the thermostat housing/water neck?
IMG_20140721_164004928[1].jpg
I don't have a matching connector on my harness, you can see the harness connectors in the proximity of the neck, and I don't see any round connectors with a single wire coming out.
Is it common to have to purchase and upgrade connectors whilst installing the harness?

Also in the TStat/water neck area:
This connector doesn't match up with the clip. Where do I find the right fit?

This isn't related to harness but..

My speed control actuator is now useless because I will be using a turbo engine (right?)
This line that comes off of it is safe to remove as well?

My car is a turbo and it has cruise... so no idea why it would be useless.

As for the tstat housing... the IAT switch is different (very expensive OEM in Canada... but you can find them used). The plugs are all available and the TSRM describes them, but it looks like your doing a 89+ 7MGTE with a pre 89 harness (I think I got that right). There are a couple sensors that are different is all. you can run without the IAT switch on the Tstat, all it does is activate the Cold Start Injector (CSI). (that's the second photo you show I believe). If you just leave it unplugged until you find the correct switch/sensor, it wont affect anything. My car started and ran perfectly with it... although in winter, that might be different. I believe (not 100% sure) the single connector is for the temperature sensor.

I think Driftmotion (and I know Dr.Tweak) have the alternative connectors that you could splice in.

what is IAT?

Man Ive gotten mixed input!
I won't touch anything in my engine bay, lol.

You're right about the years.

Im going to post all the connectors that don't match and hopefully they are all the sensors I need to upgrade. Hopefully someone can identify them, too. Now is a good time to put on my alternator/ac compressor n all that jazz?
Thanks for the reply Grandavi

What's an acceptable way to clean these holes in my AC compressor? Saw some spiderweb action goin on

I wouldn't bother with the compressor if you have to retrofit it. I just did mine... the kit cost 650.00 and included a new compressor. (there are cheaper...)
I have a rebuilt compressor as well sitting in my garage you can have if yours has issues because the shop that retrofitted mine refused to use it. (If anything was wrong with it.. they would be on the hook for everything... so I can see why).

The IAT is the brown square plug you have in the second photo you posted. There are different versions of it. You need a different plug or a different sensor (you choose.. lol). But you can run without it.

(I didn't do my engine, but I wouldn't put the AC compressor on until after the engine was in the car. But that's me. In my mind..its something you don't want to accidentally bang or crack... )
