Fifth step: Clean the area of any type of old rubber.

Sixth step: Install the MC bushing seat into position like the gif below. It doesn't go in that easy so i heated the bushing for 30 seconds and it went in easier.

Seventh step: Remove old bushing from the ball end, mine didn't have any on it. Then take your new nylon bushing and tap it on with a rubber mallet.

Eighth step: Apply some moly grease on to the seat and nylon bushing, then install the gasket with the shift lever and the 4 10mm bolts.

Ninth step: Install the rubber boot with the 4 10mm bolts and your center console.

Tenth step: Go for a drive and enjoy. The difference is incredible. Gears go in more precise, barely no play when is in gear and much stiffer. 10X better than before and the best 20 buks ever spent(no lie).

Good guide man. I replaced mine with a stock bushing instead, its equally a pain in the ass to rotate in. Makes one hell of a difference vs the 20+ year old chewed up cookie crumbs that were in there.

Yeah, mine didn't go in as easy as that .gif makes it seem. I thought mine was a dud that didn't fit at first, but after some research on the net I came to realize it's a little stubborn to rotate it in. Good job, and thanks for sharing your DIY experience with the rest of us. It will benefit somebody one day.

Wow they want $50 bucks to send me $16 dollars worth of parts. Guess I'm gonna call Toyota in the morning, that'll probably be a good 2-3 weeks wait lol

Keep in mind on W58's there's another bushing around the lower cup that can wear as well. Member on the forums makes a bronze insert for that. With the bronze bushing or R154, the lower shifter cup is very difficult to get in as well.

When removing the dash console piece, be careful as it's easy to break.

Factory bushing doens't have to be rotated in at all, just squeeze ;) The marlin crawler parts will last longer (they were originally designed for the trucks that have shifters 2-3x longer than ours, and they eat the bushings very quickly)

The green truck bushing iirc is actually made of 2 different rubbers, black and green. I was worried about it seperating so I rotated it in, it may or may not make a difference if it seperates but I figure better have it not.

At step 4, there was nothing for me to remove, so it was skip directly to step 5. At that stage, I was careful not to get any more crap dropped into the transmission if I could avoid it. I couldn't avoid it all, but did manage some. Hopefully it will come out with a transmission fluid change.

At step 6, I found that installation of the MC bushing was impossible as it sat. I used a round file and deepened the cutouts of the pins by about 1mm, which was enough to allow it to go in as intended.

Those old oem bushing just disappear over time. At first when i went to install the MC bushing i thought i got the wrong one but after heating it up with a heat gun for 30 seconds it went in much easier but it still had resistance.

Good writeup. I remember doing this a while back, and for whatever reason, I always forget about the "rotate" method. Trust me when I say these things won't bend easily... broke the first one trying. :nono:

Good news is, do it once and you can forget about it for a looooooong time. :)
