So, I hate my center console. Only good for resting my arm on.

I would like to customize it (maybe using fiberglass), so that it would have a functioning cup holder (away from the shifter) and maybe a couple of spots for guages, warning lights, etc.

So has anyone seen something custom that would "look" like it belonged in the Supra? Your project or even from some other car would be appreciated. It's not going to be an easy thing to do right, so I want as many samples as possible to build from.

I am planning on using the existing console and modifying, then layering with FB and prepping for paint or vynil (the regular stuff used in the interior).

Thanks,
E

This is the only picture i could find, not really what you were looking for but its an idea, i kinda like how the console has a smooth curve where the shifter goes instead of square as Toyota made it.

I very rarely use the cup holders under the console lid as they're in a stupid place, I usually use the little coin holder with the pop up lid as one...

i have them they suck ass if you brake too hard the drink falls forward. i care more about my car more than the drink. about 99% of the time i can get food set it on the rubber floor mat(since orig floor mats are impossible) and drive to where i am going and get water/drink. i dont like to drive worrying about a f'ing drink i like to drive my car and i do so. to each as own i guess.

edit: poodles said it if you you got the right size drink the coin holder hold's drinks good between shifts.

cut a round hole in the bottom of the pop up coin tray thingy, keep the little carpet square to cover it and it still functions as a coin tray. I never have anything but a water bottle so I dont need a cup holder.

if your buying food some where you must be going somewhere that has drinks.......

eating in car= spillage. weather its you or your friends. not all of your friends will have the respect for your cars as you do. if it was 250,000 ferrari would you be eating in it? i wouldnt. think of it that way weather or not its a ferrrari. its still your car and accidents do happen more so with drinks that actual accents with people crashing into you.

Best drinkholder is between passenger seat and console.

I was browsing but to no avail for the custom console in the 007 aston martin. If ours didn't have to open the way it does it would be okay for drinkholders. I hit my elbow on the 92.:3d_frown:

My son and I go frequently to Sonic. I always use a towel to catch whatever falls out lettuce, fries.... When your done just shake towel outside the window and done. Good point though.

Don't ask me how many times I've spilled coffee.:3d_frown:

No one drinks or eats in my cars PERIOD...

I use only the most rearward cup holder, as I rest my elbow on the 1st cup holder, IF I have a drink..

If I know I'll have more than one drink, I'll bring someone else...

For us 90+ guys, we can't use the coin tray as it's much more shallow than 86-89 coin holders, it's practially useless as a cup holder, I just keep coins and extra fuses there..:biglaugh:

very mk4ish type curve

It is, but that's what I want to make sure mine does. that it has some better/modern lines and looks like it was designed to be there.

It's my daily driver and I don't care what ya'll don't do in your cars, I take my 2nd cup (w/lid) of coffee to work in the mornings and sometimes a cup of ice-water whenever I feel like it. So when I do take something, I want an adequate/effective way to hold it.

Either way, the console needs a facelift and when I do it, it will have those things I want.

Anyone else have some ,ore sample fiberglass work to show?

Cut a hole in the ash tray...any size you like; it just won't hold anything straight (beer can?) but any tapered cup works perfect.

The coin holder lid gets in the way of shifting.

so how is it u guys are bitching about the drinks in the cupholders, which i've never had a problem with my drinks falling, but put stuff in the coin holder, which is directly behind the shifter. if anyone even leaves my lid open i flip!

Jeff Lange found a cupholder that bolts into one of the stereo locations from another Toyota. Seems to work pretty well for those who want to carry drinks.

As for the interior modifications, I don't think it's been done. TTE was talking about molding an entire custom dash at once point, but last I heard it was still vapourware... he did cast a number of the center console pieces, the part that surrounds the stereo. I have one of those myself, however, it's essentially a replica of the stock unit minus the holes.

my girl's AE92 corolla coupe has a cup holder under her Cassette/Cdplayer, looks like it'd fit a double DIN, but it's at the bottom, so it's a no-go for supras as the console curves at that point..
