the way I do it is put a crow bar or pry bar between two or three flywheel bolts while its on the stand.. sounds kinda forceful but thats how I do it. use the stand and some old flywheel bolts to stop the crank from moving then impact or strong arm the crank pulley off.

of course I suggest using new flywheel bolts for install after doing this.

this is what i did but i used like a 6 foot bar. lol so it was kinds easy....

1JZ shares the same crank dampner as a 2JZGTE and 2JZGE, bolt and all.

So, you're replacing your dampner with a lightweight unbalanced undampened "racing" pulley????

Kiss your motor goodbye. Do your research before wasting money. There is no aftermarket lightweight crank pulley for the JZ series motor that does not damage the motor. I don't need to explain what a search can do to read about removing a harmonic balancer on an engine designed for one. The more HP you make on a JZ, the more there becomes the need for an aftermarket one. The stock unit will break after the 400hp mark.

What then is the best crank pulley for a 1JZ??

A 1JZGTE might be cheaper then a 2JZGTE on initial cost. That's where the savings end. From a modification and maintance stand-point, they are identical. Once that 1JZ is in your car, you know own a 2JZGTE MKIV as far as costs go. Start reading the 2JZGTE forums on supraforums and pretend that 1 is a 2 on your motor. Read about what works, and read what doesn't. From an ordering standpoint, only once and a while will you have to order 1JZGTE specific parts. There's more 2JZGTE parts on my motor then 1JZ.
