Agreed, but keep in mind that pure wattage does not mean a power supply is good. A higher quality, more efficient power supply is better than a cheap 500+ watt one. I use a 430 watt Seasonic (they make higher watt ones if you want) on my dual core system and I love it. Plenty of power, one of the most efficient power supplies available, and ultra quiet.

No arguement from me on this one! Power supplies are kinda like car amplifiers, just because it says 600w doesn't mean it will put out a clean 600watts. That's why I was recommending to get the power supply separate from the case. You can pick one from a good manufacturer that has been tried and tested.

I like the power supply

IMHO $286 is too much for ram :thumbdown

Get $186 ram and put $100 more into the video card

HD.....hmm. I have two bad 250gig Western Digital drives sitting right here, and I have replaced about 10 others recently. I repair pc based Digital Video Recorders for my friends company. We do a bunch of local MC Donalds restraunts DVR's for their 16 camera video systems. The W.D. hard drives only seem to be good for about 2.5 years in a pc that is always on. I don't feel that is a good track record. I like the new FDB hard drives from Maxtor, who I believe pioneered FBD. Other companies have picked up FDB bearings for their drives now too.

I had a 250GB SATA Maxtor HDD that work pretty well, maybe I'll get another maxtor.

Edit: Check out this HDD...

Totally agree. WD drives CAN be good, and they are cheaper usually, but I have had much better experience with other manufacturers. Never had a Maxtor DOA, never had a data error with a Maxtor. My BEST experiences with hard drives have to be IBM and Seagate. You sometimes pay a little more, but I have a 20GB drive from 1999 that is still trucking. I use it for storing a full ghost of a fresh system install. I also have an old 100MB [yes, that small - from DOS and Win3.x days] hard drive from Seagate that worked last time I tried it out.

What wattage is your power supply? And did you have the additional 12v connector plugged into the back of the card and an extra power connector from the ps?
Trust me. It's sufficient - I don't remember exactly what I bought, but it was at least a 500w Enermax. This card has no connectors for a direct power source, either.

I know for a fact that the video card was defective, because the RMA replacement that I eventually got, 7 weeks later, despite paying for priority shipping both ways, plugged into the exact same system and has been working flawlessly for the last two months. As a matter of fact, I'm typing this message on that computer.

PS: Just to give you some background, I've been in the computer industry for 20 years, everything from retail sales & assembly to custom database coding, software QA, and now I'm management at a software house. Plus I own and maintain all 5 computers in my house. :D

Then my intuition was wrong. :stickpoke
I'll believe you know your sh-t about pc's now. :icon_bigg

It's just so hot here that I have to stir up some drama on the forum to entertain myself cause i'm not going outside. :biglaugh:

Especially for overclocking. I'm running Corsair in mine...their's two different "Brands" of corsair...value select and XMS...both are good for overclocking but XMS would be their higher end RAM. Don't know much about Kingston except that it's good quality stuff.

Other good brands for overclocking are Mushkin and OCZ, and I've heard very good things about G-Skill as well - just make sure to get the high-dollar stuff. Overclocking may cost less for processors, but you pay for it in cooling, memory and other high quality components.

I wouldn't get Maxtor hard drives. I have had 4 of them and 2 of them failed within the first two years of use. They're cheap and have good performance, but the reliability is very poor. I'm going with Seagates now. I hear their reliability is very good.

In memory, I like Kingston. They're not the ultra high performance memory, but the company is known to be one of the best companys to work for in the country. Its local to Orange County here. The owner, I believe from Taiwan or Hong Kong, had bought the company back from the Japanese, after selling it to them and they couldn't turn a profit and was going to reduce. That same owner a few years back made corporate history when he passed out the company profits to the employees as a Christmas bonus. I believe it more than doubled a lot of the employees yearly income. Anway, the memory is decent and the company is top notch.

Make sure that the system is water tight! I've heard some horror stories where people installed them and they weren't...mold grew in the water...and in others the hoses leaked water onto the mainboard and fried it!
