driving back to school last night in the rain (not sure but the wetness seemed to amplify the noise) and i started to hear a chirping or "urp" from my right rear.

-noise wasn't speed or rpm dependent
-still occurred under acceleration/coasting
-noise quieted down/disappeared around left turns
-noise occurred under straight driving/right turns

i can make the noise by braking with light-medium pressure, the noise is loudest and continuous as weight is transferred to the front and goes away when i let off the brakes (otherwise it makes the noise as i'm driving and hit small bumps/dips).

in addition (but probably not related), it sounds like my diff slips or chirps when i'm backing out of a parking spot/taking a slow, hard turn. could replacing the gear oil help with this?

up, anyone else have this problem? everything is still stock, might it be worn bushings?

hard to say from the description of the sound. So its a "tire chirp" and not a bearing/brake noise? Could that side have sustained damage recently? a hard launch or sideways bump? I would take it to an alignment shop and check the toe. Maybe a bushing went seriously bad or one of the suspension components is bent.

did you recently have an alignment done?

when you hit a pothole do you notice if the rear of the car kinda feels like it fishtails a bit? Look at the tire and try to see if the edges of the tread keeled? sounds like the problem i had little while ago when i had my car aligned....they accidentally didnt tighten the bolt that adjust the bottom suspension arm causeing my tires to cherp....it was the drivers side rear tire that was no way out of alignment and it really fucked up my rear tires....

my car even when driving in a straight line would always have this quiet squeal from the tires.....so let us know what you find.

sorry, i should clarify more. it doesn't sound like a bearing or brake, and the tire isn't chirping but the right rear corner makes a noise that i can best describe as "oop" or "urp". i'll try to get a camera mic or something back there so you guys can hear it.

no alignments, no accidents and no potholes. it definitely sounds like something suspension related.

Well without hearing the sound I would just throw out options like rear alignment and wheel bearing, but a brake grabbing on the rotor can make a "hooting" sound as well. It its a brake grabbing you can take it for a short drive and then check the temps of the rotors (carefully, dont burn yourself). If that side is particularly hot you might have a caliper hung up on the slides, a very common problem, and might fit your description of symptoms.

Have you done a visual inspection? Get the car up high enough to take a good look at it. I would just take it to a tire/alignment shop. Most will do a free inspection of the brakes/suspension. Ask if its ok you get under the lift with them and take a look for yourself along with the mechanic. Four eyes are better than two.

Tire wear is a great indicator of problems and I would look seriously for signs there. THIS is a good write up on it.
