yes it can. take it out along with its bracket, block off the line coming from the gas tank, and drill a hole in the gas cap. simple.

MAKE SURE you securely block that line off, you dont want fuel vapors in your engine bay.

is there a "HOW - TO" thread on this mod? just not to sure about drilling a hole in the gas cap. will that throw a CEL? what did you use to block off that line?

I removed it and put on one of those "breather filters" on the end of the line from the gas tank. Filter was 10 bucks from Autozone. Very simple.

did you drill a hole in the gas cap? and doesnt that filter still allow the vapors to escape? could you post up a pic of it?

err you want to BLOCK OFF that line, fuel vapors near heat and possible source of sparks = very bad.

drilling a hole in the cap will not throw a cel. every vehicle, boats included which do not have to meet emmissions standards use vented caps to keep their tanks from deforming.

i just used a small bolt and clamped it in the line.

if you're intent on removing it, listen to lagged. if you vent it under the hood, several things might/can/will happen.

1) you'll have gas fumes entering the cabin of the car, and it gets very old, very fast. 2) as lagged already stated more than once, it vents right near the exhaust manifold/turbo/downpipe assembly. do you know how hot that gets? do you really want gas fumes (the most combustible part of gasoline) to be floating around a setup that hot? 3) drilling a hole in the gas cap wont do you any harm. you could also just get a vented gas cap from any autoparts store.

A better question may be "Why?"

heh yes, this does have NO effect on performance. the ONLY reason to do it is to clean up the engine bay, thats the reason i did it.

How about instant fail on visual and a trip to the EPA station?

another important factor to consider. for me its not a problem :).

yeah, i just want to remove it to free up some space in the engine bay. i dont have to worry about emissions either. so you just capped it off by screwing a screw into the hose coming from the tank?

more like clamping a screw or a bolt in there, maybe a small hose clamp and a snug fitting bolt. wouldnt want screw threads failing under temp/pressure

Don't get me wrong, I'm no econazi. But there are ways to have your cake and eat it too. IJ's way comes to mind as what I did: I use a small molecular sieve because I needed that space for a bypass filter. I have to regen the sieve on occasion and tear it out for emisisons inspections every two years but that's no big deal.
