The starter is super easy with 2 people on it. One guy underneath with a wrench on one side, the other guy up top with the ratchet and a bunch of extensions. Guy on top feeds in the socket on extensions, guy on the bottom guides it onto the starter bolts, then holds the other side with the wrench. Feed the extensions out the front of the engine under the alternator.
Doing it this way, you can drop the starter in under 5 minutes. Worth the beer to pay your buddy to help out.
Don't forget to take off the shifter from inside the cabin. Causes a bit of a mess otherwise, and it's a pain to deal with after the tranny starts to drop. Don't ask me how I know that!
2 guys can drop the tranny, replace the clutch, and bolt it back in in about 6 hours if they have the right tools and know what they are doing. It's a weekend job if you don't know what you're doing and use the manual.
PS: I wouldn't pull the motor, either, and I've probably done this a dozen times by now.
