I was wondering which would be a better idea, as I want an exhaust that is larger than most catalytic converters offered. I have not found a cat for a 3.5" exhaust, but wished to use at least one. The plans as of now involve either running a 3.5" downpipe to a 3.5" in dual 2.5" out with dual stock turbo cats, with the pipes exiting in the stock area, or running a 3.5" downpipe to a 3.5" diesel catalytic converter to the same 3.5" in and dual 2.5" exit to the stock location. The upsides to the dual 2.5" is that exhaust would be quieter, off the ground more and potentially release less emissions, but the downside that I can see is more fabrication and a higher cost of materials (due to the quantity). Will a diesel catalytic converter work on a gas engine, meaning will it reduce the same amount of chemicals or will it do nothing but cost more? Thoughts on the setup would be much appreciated.

BTW, I do know that I do not need a 3.5" exhaust at this point, I am setting it in place later down the road, seing how I need to remake my current one when I go single (hangs too low and has some crazy bends).

if you really want a 3.5'' cat, you could get this one

http://store.summitracing.com/partd...867633+4294891681+4294791977+115&autoview=sku

cut it a little where it clares, and then weld on the 3.5'' flanges...

and why not just neck down the 3.5'' down to a 3'' at the cat, and then get a 3'' IN dual 2.5'' out y-pipe? because that might smooth out the transition a little too since your going from 3.5'' down to dual 2.5''

just some ideas to think about.

Area of a:
2.5"pipe=4.9087
3.5"pipe=9.6211
2.5"x2 pipe=9.8174

the funny part about those numbers is i just figured out the volume of all of those! for a 6 inch pipe... but im more interested in the volume the pipe can flow rather than the area of the pipe...

whatever you end up doing though, you should take some pics and show what you used to make it all up.

I could care less about CARB, as my state does the same. If it has cats and passes emissions, then it is ok in the eyes of the privately run inspection stations :)
