Car not starting

Not too long ago, I had a mechanic install another cps and my car ran fine. Then about 3 days later my car won't start; however it does crank.

I checked ohms on the coil pack and it was within specs. Igniter is good; spark plugs are fairly new (got them 2 months ago); fuses are good; fuel pump is good, and the ignition switch is good as well. I explained my situation to my mechanic and he said most likely my cps is "bad." He wasn't specific as to what exactly about the cps was bad. So I purchased yet another CPS and installed it myself this time, and my car still doesn't turn over.

I'm stumped as to what it could be. Does anyone have ideas what to what other possible problem can cause this?

Something I should mention is that according to Haynes Repair Manual, it says "turn the ignition switch to On and measure the voltage between terminal 2 and body ground with a voltmeter - it should be about 12 volts," however I got no reading at all for voltage when I did that. So I tried out terminal 1 and body ground, and it was about 12 volts for all 3 of them. So either the manual made a error or my coil is messed up. Which one is it guys?

Additionally I checked the coil primary resistance, and it was .5 ohms (within specs) for all 3 of them.

For those that want a shorter break down of what I said above:
-car is cranking but not starting
-there is no spark
-fuel pump is working
-igniter is good
-spark plugs are good
-coil pack is in uncertain condition right now (read above)
-ignition switch is good (installed brand new)
-CPS is good

Some additional info:
-1989 MK3 Supra 7mgte
-was converted to manual by previous owner
-still uses automatic ecu
-getting engine code 51. I been having this code ever since I purchased the car. The previous owner erased the codes and I was ignorant to the problems it had.
-my car doesn't have A/C

Thanks!

Are you getting fuel pressure to the engine ?

Yea, have someone sit in the car and then you go listen in the gas tank,
have them turn the key but not start it, and listen for the pump...

That or you can try to jump the fuel pump, i forget which connectors
it is but im sure someone here will pitch in on that.

Also pull out your fuel regulator and see if theres fuel in there, if not
then yea jump the fuel pump or whatever....

Another thing, check all your lines and see if there connected.

I jumped the fuel pump and I can hear it working.

Also I forgot to mention that my car doesn't spark. I checked the coil pack, spark plugs, igniter, and ignition switch; they're all fine.

The way it goes is cps sends to computer and the computer process it and sends a igt signal to the igniter about 5 volts. The 5 volts is pulled to ground by power transistors. It sends the negative pulse to the coils primary. Did you check the ignitor this way. You take a 3 volt battery to do this test. This test will check your power transistors inside of the igniter. What I did I read somewhere in one of the forums to take the igniter case apart and inside you will see the ground terminal inside. Solder a wire on to it and run it out the back of the case which already has holes in it and run it to a good ground because the only way the igniter gets its ground is threw the case itself which is not good. The only other thing I think of is a bad ecu. Did you reset the ecu by pulling the fuse. I forgot one thing that happened to me you might want to check is the plug for the cps on the harness side. It is bad to get hot and the wire will burn off the back of the connector. So do all your checks at the ecu itself that will tell you that all your wiring is good to the computer.

Yea I also thought it was my CPS, so I went through 3 of them (all purchased from members from here), and the last one I purchased, the end of the plugs were out. I just super glued the end so it won't fall out and it's still not starting. I actually didn't check my igniter, and I only assumed it was good because I received it from a friend. So if it's the igniter, that means my igniter and my friend's igniter are bad, but it was working fine on his car so I assume it's good.

When I crank the engine, the tachometer does go up slightly; like around 100-200 rpm.

Another thing I should mention is that when I crank my engine, it cranks very fast. Is that normal? It was like this since the day I bought it.

So I'm thinking it's either the ECU or I somehow screwed up when I installed the CPS.

Anyways, at this point I don't even have money to fix this car. Sucks because I just recently purchased this car a few months ago and I had a grand saved up just in case something did go wrong, and a grand still wasn't enough. I'm already thinking about selling it now because the problems never stop :(.

You're right near Kaizen motorsports right? I was there yesterday and they would probably help out, I'm borrowing an igniter from them till Monday. I would explain to them what you've done and where your at and hopefully you can work something out or point you in the right direction?

My car would just crank and not start because of a short in the alternator. I took the belt off, unplugged the alt connector in the back and wrapped the thick wire that bolts up top via the nut with thick rubber gloves real good and she started proving it was my alternator.

And make sure the cps is installed correctly of course, I always mix that up and if she doesn't start I put it to tdc and flip her around to be sure.

Take apart the ignitor and add an external ground. The ignitors are known to have bad grounding issues making it not spark.

East to take apart and locate what wire is ground.

Good luck
