So recently my car has been smoking a good amount. Mainly when i first start the car. ITs a blue-ish white smoke coming out of the exhaust. When the car reaches operating temps only alittle smoke comes out every now and then. However, if i hit full boost a good sized puff of blue-ish white smoke still comes out. Fist two things that come to my mind are the piston rings and turbo.. however, my piston rings and turbo are both only a few months old. Any other ideas that could cause burning oil? Or are there any easy ways to check if the rings are bad or if the turbo is bad?

Maybe that mustang guy that wanted to race for pinks and/or 1k$ put some salt in your tank...

I'll bet he'll be showing up to race you now! ;)

Back on topic... Valve stem seals?

And of course a compression and leak down test.

ya, didn't think about the vavle seals.. durr me.. So for the piston rings i should do a compression test? The car seems to still have full power, i havnt noticed any power loss.

Sounds to me like turbo seals, did you properly "prime" the turbo? I'm sure you did, just making sure.
The #1 failure for new turbos is improper and/or not priming.

Yeah, a compression check and leak down are worth a check. Even after a recent rebuild...

Plus it's easy elimination.

i have a catch can.. but its still connected to the pcv thing on the throttle body as well.. maybe i should block that off and see if it still smokes.. from what iv seen it does smoke on decel. Also, how exactly do i do a leak down test.. never done it before.

well why would that just now be causing my car to smoke alot? its been set up like that forever..unless for some reason the vac line going to the intake on the turbo isn't pulling enough vacuum.. so then it would be going into the throttle body.. idk.

Mine smoked from buildup over time. I fixed everything and had it all bead blasted. but you have a catch can so it shouldn't be getting any oil in the intake. I know when I had my old 77 chevy truck it smoked on start up and high throttle because of the valve stem seals.

Im starting to think its not the piston rings.. because while its sitting oil is getting into the cylinders.. soo oil isn't going to leak upwards.. i wouldnt think..lol. seems more likely to be the valve stem seals leaking oil down in there while its sitting.. most of the smoke comes out at start up. Is my thinking correct? Another thought to add.. someone was following behind me and said they noticed the smoke coming out when i would shift gears.

Every time you shift you relieve the load on your motor for that one or two seconds. Maybe that is enough time for oil to seep out. Possibilities

so smoke on decel implies the turbo leaking oil? i thought someone said that earlier i could be wrong... but inbetween shifts would be a slight decel

Not sure about the turbo part, but smoke on decell is a pretty good indication of valve stem seals, as is smoke on startup. When you decell you have the highest manifold vacuum your engine ever sees, and it pulls oil past the guides into your intake. After sitting overnight oil seeps down past the stem seals and gets burned off on startup

I have reason to believe that the valve stem seals are his problem.
