is this possible? my original car either didn't have one or it was lost. the jdm engine didn't come with one and neither did the parts car..

Yes this is possible. I bought my car and it kept throwing the egr check engine code. It had the egr on it and I could not figure out why it was throwing the code. I tested it and it tested fine. I figure out on my own that the guy had upgraded the ecu to 89+ and it was California emissions. The egr that was own my car was not calif. emission. I put a 12k resistor in the plug and no more check engine light. The difference is one has a sensor built in and one dont. I got mine from suprasport but you can also purchase the block off plate at driftmotion. It also saves alot of trouble if you have to get to the egr block off in the back of the motor. I have been threw that already.

well a jdm ecu is as much as a EGR setup on ebay? do need to buy this for it to run? or just leave it blocked off?

IIRC USDM ECU uses it for detonation suppression, so that safety net would be lost. JDM ecu or put an EGR on.
Yup...you would have to be most careful at part throttle under load (like when you're going up a hill)...boost + leaner mixture due to no EGR = greater chance of detonation.
As long as you don't have the California ECU if you block off the EGR it should be fine. The cheapest place to get the blockoffplates is arizonaperformance.com you'll need the one that bolts to the side of the upper intake manifold if you already have the one on the back of the engine. Also the reason your JDM didn't have any EGR is because they don't use EGR over there or atleast not when the MK3's were built.

OP: If cost of the JDM ECU or the EGR set up is the same, you might as well get EGR, as you will get better mileage. Despite what some may tell you EGR does not sacrifice power as it is not active at WOT.
When I bought my car, it didn't have EGR, but it did have a hole in the block. Boost wasn't pushed past 10-12 PSI (Stock AFM and injectors), HG was intact when I did the teardown. There is a lot of argument as to whether or not removing EGR can cause this damage, but the lack of EGR is the only contributor I have found to the motor blowing up. Just saying. Get an EGR valve, you can get them pretty cheap.

wouldn't the jdm ecu help on future emissions removal though. i don't care all that much about mileage being it will barely effect it. but why go stock egr?
Search for "EGR*" without the quotes. There are tons of old discussions on this. The simple thing to say is if you are running a USDM ECU, run EGR. EGR gives better gas milage and lowers EGT's.

You are making this way harder than is has to be. This is an EGR system (see link above). Everything you dont have you need. Post a thread in the WTB section telling us what you need and chances are you will get everything cheaper than a junkyard, and without the hastle of searching for it.

Sorry guys, I have done EGR block off on all 4 of my supra turbos with maintaining the USDM ECU and have never had any problems.
You can also pump gas and smoke at the same time and never have problems. It doesn't make it a safe or smart thing to do...
