Not sure where you see cheaper, they look on average, higher than similar year and models are going over here.

cheapest I saw was a 91 narrow body, with a 1g. Going for 260,000 yen($2506.14)

and it is an auction, so the price can only go up.

On average most were between $6,000 and $10,000.

After all the hassle and cost of getting a car over here you can't even drive, it's point less. A massive waist of time and money. Better to just pick up an engine you want and put it in your own supra.

I've never acutally found Japanese prices to be that cheap, even on Jap only models.

For example I'm looking at a 1JZ Soarer that's already been imported to the UK, all registered, all ready to drive away today on autotrader for £1,800 ($3,600). A comparable cars still in Japan seem to be commanding upwards of £2,700 ($5,400), and that's still excluding shipping and registration/compliance costs.

Another example is the GA70 I'm going to have a look at next week. Granted I can't compare it to much because the only important I have on the car is that it's an import, 88 model, manual and twin turbo, but I know for a fact that the £350 ($700) it's listed for wouldn't cover half of the shipping costs of getting a comparable GA70 to the UK.

Even here where importing a Jap car is a considerably easier experience than the US, I wouldn't bother. It's just not worth the extra bother.

Nope, that and you run the risk of killing yourself because its a right hand drive car. Blind spot like a mofo.

What you've got to remember is that there are more differences between JSpec and USDM MKIVs than what side the steering wheel is on.

Edit: Also, those $10K - $15k MKIVs you were digging up were NAs.

A proper 2002 6-Speed TT with low miles looks like it will set you back $40k+... that's not exactly what I'd call mindblowingly cheap

Found out some more info

1999 Supra RZ Twin Turbo JZA80 3000 F5 110,000 white ? *** sale price 100,000 shipped price 649,000

So it cost between 5-5.5k to ship

Im just not sure how much of a pain it would be to get it registered

1. A car with the same spec, year, colour and similar kms is going for $26k - Someone has screwed up on the site or the car is a wreck.

2. A 20ft container to FL will run you $3422 (apparently).

3. From my research, It will be impossible to get it registered (Legally). There are a couple of ways to get around it, but at the end of the day, it will still be illegal.

you could just use the RHD chassis for a track car, but seeing as how we're really used to shifting with our right hands that might put you at a pretty big disadvantage for the first few weeks

While on a similar subject, Doesn't the US have similar policy to the 15 rule Canadian rule stating that anything 25 years and over can be bought in (relativity) trouble free?

Really? You sure about that? Maybe you should do more research ;)

This is a Turbo car. 60,000 miles ;)
This is an example. Remember that us Canadians have the 15 year old rule and are LEGALLY allowed to have these cars here ;)

I also got an MKIII Supra a few years ago from Japan and got it for cheap. (1JZ twin turbo) Under 9000K and with exhaust, Cusco coilovers, hatch brace, strut bars, intake boost controller, Volk wheels and a few misc other things.

Here in Australia, 8 times out of 10, it is cheaper to get a great condition Supra by importing from Japan. Granted, our exchange rate is great, and shipping isn't *too* bad atm :)
